What was your experience with this and did you end up mortgaging your home to pay the vet bills?

I knew a girl that spent $4,000 for a knee replacement on a stray dog she found and kept. frick that noise, I can get a new dog.
ETA: Be careful. They like to guilt trip you into all these expensive tests and treatments.

It's like a car. If the cost of repair is more than the cost of a suitable replacement, then the repair isn't worth it.

wife spent 3-5k on a weiner dog. Ct scan was bulk of bill, dog would have died within months if not done. It ended up living another 7years

I've spent a lot of money on my pets for healthcare. I figure it's the cost of ownership.

Pet Insurance for the win. Probably a waste of money each month but I feel it's worth it to never have to contemplate not spending the money in case my dog needs it
