They did a hazing thing called "The Gauntlet" where they have to drink 5 liquor drinks in 2 minutes.
Hardly what I'd call deadly amounts of alcohol (depending on how much was in each). Pretty sure this kid drank before and after if he had .40 BAC.
Then he fell down the stairs and hit his head. They thought he was just drunk, but he had bleeding in his brain from the fall.
I can't tell you how many times in college my friends were falling over and passing out from being drunk and I never called 911 and they're all fine. They just didn't realize he had a brain injury as well.

I think the problem was the next morning when "he looked dead" and they waited 40 minutes to call for help.

This. They just left him down at the bottom of the stairs and didn't do anything until 24 hrs after the fall. There was a testimony that another pledge was yelling at the older members saying that they needed to do something for him and the guys just brushed it off.

They're fricked. The DA has proof they knew he had a head injury and still didn't call police. Yikes.
They would have a chance to get off if they could say "We just thought he was drunk like everyone else".

They also texted about basically covering up what (or where) all this had happened. It's a pretty sad story, can't call a guy ambulance who fell down the stairs so they could protect their charter or whatever. Group think, alcohol and testosterone leads to some poor decisions

That's not the story I heard. I thought he fell and then walked to the couch and fell asleep. Did they move him to the couch in the morning after they found him?

The dumbest hazing stories come from the shittiest greek schools
It seems like in the north all the fraternities are either obsessed with ensuring they're diverse and making safe spaces for transgendered brothers, or they're cargo pant wearing, gelled haired douchebags force feeding alcohol to 18 year olds.
