Patients who scream at the top of their lungs to light mild palpating

Yet seem to have no pain sitting back against the chair or laying on the exam bed, or carrying their purses, or picking up their children. I always get into my most concerned and serious tone that in almost 20 years of practice I've rarely seen patients unable to tolerate even the lightest of exam touch and they need to be sent to radiology immediately and there is a possibility surgery will follow.

This usually pisses them off as they suddenly see I didn't fall for their exaggerated BS and my next clinical step is about to cost them a lot more.

Sorry, your screams when I barely touch your skin where you say you have pain will not make it more likely you get OxyContin

So you get them hooked and then pull the rug out from under them?

I suffer severe gout attacks every so often.

You touch that knee and I swear to God I'm going to tell you to back off.

Wrong. You came to see me, or pay me for my opinion. My opinion often follows some plan of care.

So when they complain about neck pain and you grab their balls they don't like it

I was just joking but the worst is when I know what's wrong with me and I know the meds that work but then I get Quincy MD Medical examiner that is going to order blood work so he can bill the insurance company when honestly all I want from him is for him to pull out the pad and write the script I know I need.

I didn't go to medical school but I've been living with the condition for two decades so a lot of the time I am paying a Dr for the sole reason that they have the right to prescribe.

This is how I imagine these visits go for personal injury auto accident plaintiffs while reading their medical records. 10/10 pain after no treatment for a few months and after getting a lawyer? Oh sure :JenniferLawrencegif:

And then they want an excuse so they can miss work, if they are employed.

On the flipside, I'm tired of being treated like a drug seeking junkie every time I'm in legitimate pain.

Went with my dad to the back doctor a few years ago. Big practice, and they would take three or four people at a time back to the exam rooms. One ole baw went in our group who I had seen motivating around the waiting room pretty well. As we got further down the hall, his limp became more and more pronounced, until when he got to his room it looked like he could hardly walk at all.

So you have a lot of patients who come in and complain about how it hurts when you touch them

Then you tell them you don't have a lot of patients who tell you it hurts when you touch them

Did you learn your logic in med school?

I would normally say subtle brag but this isn't even subtle. We get it, you are a doctor.

WooHoo.
