John Gibson was a pastor and seminary professor. When he wasn't teaching at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, one of his favorite pastimes was fixing cars.

quote:

It was August 24, six days after hackers exposed the names of millions of people who had signed up for Ashley Madison, the notorious site for those seeking affairs. Gibson's name was on the list.
His wife, Christi, discovered her husband's body.

quote:

"He talked about depression. He talked about having his name on there, and he said he was just very, very sorry," Christi said. "What we know about him is that he poured his life into other people, and he offered grace and mercy and forgiveness to everyone else, but somehow he couldn't extend that to himself."

Yup, just mentioned this in the other AM thread. This was my girlfriends uncle.

Never met him so I don't know the guy, but I don't sympathize with those who take the easy way out. God bless and good luck to his family though.

Definitely a sad situation all around, but this man's suicide most decidedly does not lay at the feet of the hackers.

Is there a reason we should feel bad about his inability to cope with his own hypocrisy?

Oh I don't know, preaching and teaching about the sanctity of marriage while looking for a side piece.

You attended his church? I didn't read anything like that in the story. I read grace and mercy.

There is not a man alive who would want to be judged by his personal low point or have his sexual peccadilloes exposed to his children, family and friends. Not me, not you, not anybody.

Sad story.

Totally serious. Why does anyone expect perfection from anyone? We are all sinners.

So you're saying he didn't preach about being faithful in marriage?

i read the cliche "play stupid games, win stupid prizes". Sorry he couldn't handle his own sin. Maybe he shouldn't have committed it (or tried to).
