Parents Suing Hammond school over bullying

Apparently, the parents complained to Holy Ghost. HGS did suspend the bullies for a few days, which does follow their handbook in which the parents signed and agreed to, but the parents wasn't satisfied with just a 2 day suspension. They threatened the principal and staff repeatedly to the result of the school threatening a restraining order on them and having cops present at times with the parents there. The older brother of the girl then started protesting during carpool line everyday. The parents claimed her kids was expelled. The school basically said their buisness were no longer welcome due to the threats by the parents.
I know this will divide the community in Hammond on which side is right. My question to you OT philosophers: what roll does schools have on bullying that happens outside of school grounds (cyber bullying), or should this be an issue between the bullies parents and the bullied parents only?
I know, TL:DR
If Germans, please delete. I searched Holy Ghost, Hammond, catholic school, lawsuit, and a few other words

HAMMOND — The parents of a 13-year-old Hammond Catholic school student say their daughter was hospitalized because of constant bullying by two classmates and the school not only failed to take proper disciplinary action against the bullies but forced their daughter to leave the school. William and Jeanine Holmes, the girl’s parents, allege in a lawsuit filed Wednesday in state District Court in Tangipahoa Parish that administrators at Holy Ghost Catholic School on North Oak Street failed to discipline two seventh-grade boys who allegedly “severely and traumatically bullied” the girl for months through verbal threats and taunts on social media.

Late on Wednesday afternoon, following the filing of the lawsuit, a spokeswoman said in an additional statement, “We have not been served with a lawsuit regarding a bullying matter. The Federal Education Privacy Act does not allow us to comment on a student's discipline or academics. We may confirm that a family did make a complaint against two students for acts of bullying, that the administration took those complaints seriously, followed up and disciplined the students. These actions were taken in accordance with handbook and policy of the school and diocese. The discipline was serious, was more than detentions but less than expulsion and was designed to teach them that bullying is not acceptable at Holy Ghost or anywhere else.” It continues, “The complaining family was not satisfied with the punishment and demanded that the two boys be expelled. The father of this family became so threatening toward the principal, the pastor and the school itself that a restraining order from the court had to be obtained against the father prohibiting him from threatening the administration and the school. While we do not agree with the actions and the accusations of the family, we are praying for them, and sincerely hope that they are happy at the new school they have chosen for their children.” The diocese finished, “The family also reported this to the civil authorities. We will cooperate with the civil authorities in whatever way they request as long as it does not violate the federal law regarding privacy in education. To our knowledge, no arrests have been made.” The Holmes' say, “The diocese mentions the temporary restraining order (TRO) as an attempt to distract from the real issues.” They say they're fighting because their daughter believes it will make a difference for others.

Not sure what they expect he school to do if this stuff happens off school grounds.
I'd be interested to know what the verbal threats and taunts were.
One thing I never understand about these stories....if it is that bad, why do you allow your kid to have a social media account?

From what wwl and one of the news channels said, it was via text message. However, I always thought cyber bullying was online.

Students are expected to adhere to certain principles and moral standards. You can get expelled for off campus acts.
The school should do all it can to prevent bullying. Lots of schools dont

quote:really? You don't think the bully can post shite all over social media and spread hate? It doesn't have to be posted on the victims wall.

its not the schools problem if it doesn't happen at school. The school will win this case easily

Only answer is to fire a warning shot at the bully. If he does it again kill the bully parents.

Scruffy wants to know if they ever confronted the parents of the two little douches.

Scruffy, you are a wise man. No articles have anything about what took place between the parents. I went to that school years ago and know must of the staff there, I honestly don't believe they would just sit back and watch this kind of things. Now I am a parent. I would be on that phone with the other kids parents immediately.

Your subject verb agreement is maddening.
Eta: how old are you? I went to HGS from '93-00.

No. That's bullshite. Their reach should only extend to what happens on school ground during school functions. The rest is up to the parents to you know...be parents.

I work retail. I can't tell you of how many times I have had to deal with upset customers saying they aren't leaving until so and so is fired, or won't shop here until that person is fired. How come people believe that the only means to render a problem is to get rid of the other side?

How do you really know what most schools do?
Do you really know what most schools do or have you been watching too much TV?
Most schools handle their business day in and day out. It's only the few times out of hundreds and thousands of these situations that go back that get reported. And out of those times that the news does pick up on, they get most of those wrong.

Chicken, I am suing Tigerdroppings, the server it is on, and everyone who witness this horrible act! Lol!
In truth though when I type on this phone and type quickly, I just type and don't back track. My grammar, spelling, use of commas, and everything else is pretty out of whack. I apologize. Maybe I should indeed slow down a little.
Also, I went from 89-98.

If you are two years behind me, most likely. Lol. I arrange my memory on people based on 3 groups. Who went to HHS, who we to STA, and who didn't go to a high school in Hammond after HGS. If you fall under the STA category, I definitely should remember you. HHS category, maybe. The 3rd category.. Most likely not.

IMO, When schools took away the ability for kids to defend themselves, both physically and verbally, they assumed responsibility for handling this type of thing.
Bullies are field by the perception of power. Schools right now are tailor made for bullies. The whole "everybody is equal, nobody is better, flower and lambs" attitude.
The inability for a kid to take any kind of stand for themself without risking getting in trouble only makes bullying easier. I've said this before: I bet Scott Fargas never screwed with Ralphie again after Ralphie beat his arse.
