Parents ask you to cook something but then dictate how you cook it

So I consider myself to be a reasonably good cook, certainly better than my folks who get most of their recipes off of boxes and merely involves dumping a few things together and saying voila. My dad can't grill to save his life but it's a man thing so he always talks about how awesome he is at it. Whatever he grills comes out burned an inedible.
They always ask me to come over and cook, especially if there is company coming over, and I don't mind at all but I can't stand them hovering around in the kitchen telling me what to do. It finally came to a boil when I was prepping some chickens with a rub and my mom started hollering No don't put that on there! Nothing weird!
I said frick it, so sick of this. You don't like what I do, you do it. Anybody deal with this with their folks? Should I just bite the bullet, cook the damned food, and be done with it?

I can't believe you wrote so much about this.

Live in their basement, cook by their rules.

Jeez. You are way too damn sensitive.
Happen to me and I just tell them not to eat it if they don't like it. Ignore them and proceed to cook like you intend.

Yeah, it sucks when they try to tell you how to do things.
But you know what sucks more? Not having them around to tell you how to do things.

I know what you mean. It's like parents who always ask, "When are you gonna' bring me some grandchildren?" And then the old geezers have the nerve to bitch when the kids are real frick-ups.
"Why do you let Michael pee in his pants? Why does Sarah drink Coke after midnight? Why does Orangello not know how to swim at age 12?"
Bitch, get off of my back. You got your grand kids already, and now you want them to be perfect?

If my mom caught me rubbing chicken in the kitchen...it would be weird.
She's right.
She's right.

Keep your parents happy. One day they will be gone.

Man my mom does this shite, but its not with just cooking. She will even wait until the person is finished doing whatever it is she asked them to do and then tell them "okay, but you didn't do it this way here or that way there". Or if someone does a favor for her she will complain about the way they did it. Its an old people thing I guess.

Mom's a great cook, and I consider myself a pretty decent one as well.
She's never controlling over me when I offer and help out.

This. we discuss things. Mostly I listen and then make changes as I see fit.

The OT isn't going to solve your Mommy Issues. Go to a therapist.
