Swore I'd never own another black car because they are impossible to keep clean, and I'm not all that interested in washing a car every. single. week. But....the black on black car we found just looks awesome and we got a deal we're happy with.

SO...do i need to get ceramic or some other type of coating? Use special soaps/cloths/sponges? Wax all the time?

Just have to deal with it....I have a black vehicle and i'm thinking about getting Ceramic Pro to help. Nothing is going to keep them from showing dirt more than other colors though.

I have found the key to black vehicles is NEVER use a normal towel, or wash with anything but a hand super soft mit. Dry with a good shammy and wax every 6 months or so. Theres a huge difference in the amount of swirl marks you can avoid from washing / drying with common towels.

I have a black vehicle. Secret is never wash it. Only wash the wheels. "Always gonna look dirty" they say and no swirl marks ever.

No one ever mentions when mine is dirty.

You're gonna get visible swirl marks on black paint. It's just a fact of life. I've heard the ceramic coatings work well against them, though.

A good thick pile microfiber is much better than a chamois.

My protocol for a black car would be this.
Only hand wash. Use the two bucket method, plenty of vids on you tube.
If you get the car ceramic coated that will help, then you can dry it mostly with a leaf blower.
The less you touch the paint the better.
Never ever machine wash it.

Microfiber products are available for washing, drying and removal of coatings.

Get some and use them. Care for them as recommended by the manufacturer.

Modern day polymer coatings are available to protect your finish and they're not too difficult to apply.

Reddit r/autodetailing

If you're too lazy to read:

Don't fall for chemical guys

Best bet as a diy'er is to use meguirs or read Reddit and find their recommendations

They have some decent products but so many variations on the same thing. My go to is Adam's and use meguiar's polishes

I'm sure some of their things are good but to me doing research I can find better for the same price or less.

Get some micro fiber fiber towels, they're better at not leaving swirl marks.

And detail or wax it afterwards. Deal with it, you knew what you were getting yourself into with a black vehicle

Clay bar is good for getting out impurities in the clear coat. The only thing that sucks is that you have to do it during cool weather.

Permagard, one time application last for up to eight years. Works wonders, not cheap though but worth it.
