100% agree but bodybuilders are no doubt strong. Top level bodybuilders that is.

Not to be Euro-centrist but I would have a really hard time picking that guy out of a line-up of his fellow Asians.

He's really unremarkable-looking.

Like featureless.

I know a guy who used to be an A but now looks like a B. Was even a big time body builder on the national stage at one time. I think it is a combination of years of steroid use + age + a want for beer. Can't even bend over to lace the combat boots he works out in now, has to prop up on something.

A lot of bodybuilders look more like the strongman between contests. A lot of swimmers are not as lean in the years between the Olympics as they are at the Olympics. Look at the pictures of Lolo or whatever her name is - thin and athletic normally, lot thinner with less body fat at a track meet.

I guess people change the body type a bit depending on whether they're in a competition cycle or some other phase of training.

Oh the horror.

Bodybuilders are strong as shite. Arnold deadlifted over 700 lbs, squated over 500 lbs, and bench pressed over 450 lbs.

Sure that's nothing compared to a "strongman", but you can't compare the 2, those guys specifically train for strength. If you asked someone if they would rather have Arnold's physique and deadlift 700 lbs, or a strongman's physique and deadlifts 1,000+ lbs, I bet 9 out of 10 would pick Arnold.

At the end of the day, most people workout for aesthetic reasons.

Eta: and this particular argument is dumb considering the only " function" this little comic is considering is strength. Many world class athletes have more aesthetically pleasing physiques than strongmen, and they are much more functional overall. All strongmen are good at are lifting heavy weights. Hardly that useful in everyday life.

I'd agree with everything said. Just depends what you do but body builders lift weights to look good and not necessarily function. Nothing wrong with that just not what strongmen or athletes care about

What doesn't make sense is what they said about them looking thin or whatever because they're on steroids. I guess they don't understand that the strongmen are on steroids too. Because they are.

Arnold benched 500. He uses"I failed 9x trying to bench 500 and never would have gotten it if I didn't try a 10th time" in his motivational speeches.

Nearly every professional you see in any very physical profession is on some type of performance enhancer. Bodybuilding/strongman would more than likely have a 95% fail rate if drug tested properly.

That goes for pro sports, strongman, bodybuidling, fitness modeling, crossfit, swimming, track and field, etc.

No doubt bodybuilders are strong.
Johnny Jackson has called out powerlifters to see if they are stronger than him
But it was Jay Cutler that said, "Our job is to look like we lift heavy weight all the time"
