OT Style Gurus: 2 piece vs 3 piece

I like the look of a three piece suit but I'm also older (and somewhat old fashioned). Today's trends- is there an inappropriate time for a 3 piece?

While the 3-piece can certainly look good, I tend to equate people wearing one with trying hard to look good and not necessarily actually looking good.

It's a good business look still, but the style has definitely trended down sharply over the past several years.

I'll rock a 3 piece to a real informal event. Mardi Gras ball for example. Other than that, stick with the two.

think you meant to say formal but semi-formal would apply there.
