Been a runner for years, moderate level- 40-50 miles per week

I'm curious how you feel at the start of your runs vs at the end? FYI average run is 7-8 miles

my problem is- i start off feeling like shite and barely any energy and dead legs, however i feel like i dont want to stop at the end. my best stretch is always the last 2-3 miles when i do a 7-10 mile run. i did my first half marathon last year, and my last mile was a minute faster than mile 1.

anyone else experience this? i wonder if its diet related pre run? my problem is i have a very sensitive stomach and in the past i would run to the bathroom 2-3 times if i ate big breakfasts. i now only eat a banana and yogurt.

Do you warm up? If not, what you experience is called warming up

Moderate would be 10 miles per week, 15 tops.

in the running world, yes. lol

i posted one time on a runners message board, and these guys made fun of me for being such a lightweight. advanced/high level is more like 10+ miles a day. i know a guy at the gym that does that.

im scaling back after an upcoming marathon to about 25-30 a week.

Running 10+ miles per day sounds like a mental disorder.

Sounds like that would take a ton of time. But I guess those guys run 6 minute miles, so an hour workout isnt bad.

Yeah, unless someone is chasing you, I don't see a need for that.

dude its crazy. when i went to pick up my packet for the marathon last year, it was a freak show. lol

these guys were saying they do iron mans and ultra marathons(100 miles), and they do that as a full time job. how the fu*k is that fun to train for?

my question to someone who told me he has to eat 10k calories the day he runs an ultra-marathon was, "how the hell do you have time to eat 10k calories?"

Mrs. Golfer did a 70.3 last year I don't think she ever reached 50 miles running in a week while training.

I'm training for a 70.3 in October. I never run close to 50 miles a week. I have run 10 miles total so far this week . But I only ran 2 days and am resting up for a big ride this weekend.

To the OP, I feel like that all the time. Most of my runs are 5-7 miles. I always feel slow in the first mile, then I get in a rhythm. It's different sometimes though depending on how tired my legs are. I also often run by heart rate and trying to keep it low leads to slow boring runs. I almost always get bored and end up with each mile being faster than the last due to wanting to finish.

How do you find time to workout running this much?

40-50 miles per week? Can't be good for your #gainz. I recommend you quit running for awhile and eat 3000 calories of ribeye per day.

Would you find it odd if someone went to the gym for an hour a day? Some people just like to run. If you run an hour a day, you can easily get that many miles. And if you are on a training plan for let's say a marathon, a lot of your miles come on long runs on the weekend. You might knock out 15+ miles on Sunday

No because that is a bout how long I go. I run also and enjoy both. I do find it odd that some people soley run or bike and have no desire to do any kind of resistance training but to each their own.

You might not be warming up correctly. Try doing dynamic stretches along with static stretches before you start your run. Leg swings, butt kicks, high knees, etc.

Go visit them in 10 yrs at your local Orthopaedic Surgeon or Physical Therapy Office. You will be proud of being called a lightweight
