coasted to shoulder. Turns over but won't crank, strong rotten egg smell. Not overheating, oil and coolant levels are fine, not overheating. What gives? Two thoughts I had were distributor or fuel filter/pump. TIA

Fuel not getting to the engine would be my first guess.

ETA: Actually, rotten egg smell + no combustion is probably catalytic converter needs replacing.

Not overheating. Had only been driving about 5 minutes.

Could be injectors, plugs or coil. Possibly a misfire issue.

Truck probably just said "frick this" and quit. Don't worry I do the same thing. It'll be good to go in the morning

Rotten egg smell is your catalytic converter. Need more info on your truck. Brand, engine, year model, ect.....

I had that happen once. I got towed home. it started and never had a problem.
I presume something was in a line or inside the engine that got dislodged by being pulled up at an angle for 50 miles.

Had a truck do this to me one time a couple of years ago. Mine was a fuel pump.

Strong rotten egg smell is unburnt fuel getting to your catalytic converters. You are having an issue with your secondary ignition somewhere. Your plugs are not firing good enough to burn the fuel in the combustion chamber.

No such thing a fuel filter issues since 1998. Filters all have bypasses built in now.
