OT Marines, saw this on my FB news feed

Is this supposed to sound badass?
I have always been interested in military history and learning about the military, but why do some assholes feel the need to behave this way? What if a 15 year old girl comes up and says "Thank you for being a soldier." Gonna "boot stomp her in the jaw?" I hope this is not a common mindset.
I don't know why I still have Facebook, everything there is so infuriating...but I can't look away.

I'll catch hell for it, but Marines are changed in many ways for the worse. To them they are all better, but eveyone I have known to go Marine has come back like a robot, while Army and Air Force people return to civilian life and everything is normal. A marine has to tell you he is a marine every day.

Sounds Beta as frick.

Some of the tools I went to high school with joined the Marines and became even bigger tools. Those who went to college first and became officers are cool but it seems like every enlisted guy has a huge chip on his shoulder and is pissed off at the world. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate what they do but I'm tired of hearing about how every civilian owes them something even though all they do is change HUMVEE tires at a random base somewhere in the states.

No one is like that, we talk shite an get into it between branches since everyone other than us Airmen are a huge bunch of pussies, but people don't talk like this to civilians and if they do they are the worthless few

I was in the US Army, I know you asked for Marines,. There is a lot of stuff I let slide. Why? Because most don't know and they only have good intentions.

Don't see what the big deal is. You'll see ppl be bigger retards over a college football team, that never attended the college.
Can't hold pride against something you've never been through or earned.

Funny story that goes along these lines
I had just joined the Air Force, was doing good work, got selected to go pair with our Wing Commander O-6 Vice Commander O-6 and Med Group Commander's husband for a golf tourney. Commander was a heavies pilot, get to talking to him and I asked him when he decided to fly why didn't he choose to fly something cool?
He is now the Vice Commander for U.S. Air Forces in Europe as a 2 star...

I'm a Marine
And I'd appreciate it if you'd capitalize the word Marine.
Thanks

That sounds like something a guy would say fresh out of recruit training.
Some terminology and stuff is unique, but a trigger puller type of person in the Army can sit down with the same from the USMC and talk doctrine, tactics, symbology, planning, and so forth and generally have very few problems planning a patrol together or whatever.
One difference, in my opinion, is marksmanship. Lot of great shooters in the Army and good Army units and lower level leaders (NCOs) will make sure they attend to this issue. Good officers will support it and participate. But it's not an Army 'thing'. Many units in the Army consider weapon qual as something that has to be done, and not a vital element of their craft as Soldiers. USMC is different. It's a 'thing' for them. It matters. They treat it as such. I've always respected that.

Interesting perspective. I've yet to meet any veteran who has a chip on his shoulder because he served. They may like to talk or brag about their service, but I've never had any of them be pissed about their decision or resentful of those who chose otherwise.
If you want to thank them, do so. If not don't. It's your choice. But don't resent them b/c you HAD to thank them. Again it's your choice.
As for the link, the author is all gunghoe (sp) on his role. No different than anyone else who is ate up with the dumbass about something. Go call Clemsons stadium "Death Valley" and see how many people correct you. For that matter, go watch some LSU fans taunt opponents at a tailgate. You talk about assholes...

That's true. I just transferred to the guard. The Army can't shoot for shite. They just don't teach the fundamentals of marksmanship in basic training.

Easy now, you'll burn more calories getting riled up like this. Save your strength. Those important aviation weather bulletins and email alerts aren't going to just answer themselves.

all of the former Marines i know (my late grandfather, my uncle, and one of my best friends from back in the day) all were still really good people after their time in the Marines... my good friend is still in active duty as a sergeant, but he's state side as a recruiter... one of the most humble, well spoken dudes i've ever met... huge improvement from where he came from as a kid...
to their credit, they go through a little bit more than Army or Navy guys, and you do see some toolbags that are former Marines, but i'm just saying not all of them are terrible after their time in the Marines...
