OT golfers - irons set decision

3 - PW Ping Zing 2 black dots - $150.00 or newer set - 300.00-600.00?
A couple of my buddies have had the Ping Zing 2 for a very long time and love them, but is there a better set of irons that are more forgiving for the less accurate golfer? No so much concerned with price, but I want a solid set of irons.

For $600 you can find a very nice and much newer set of pre-owned.

Go with something newer
People love those old pings but technology and performance has long passed them by

ur probably gonna need to regrip them so you need to allow for that too.
I was never wild about the zings but they are certainly forgiving.
I'd buy a newer set if I were you.

No matter what you do, get fitted.

Ping is definitely the way to go as far as most custom fitting options. I own a set of G25's and I am extremely happy with them. Will hang onto them for a long time.
Resale value is also there with Ping. Check ebay/CL for them.

I have been looking for a set of irons as well. After a lot of researching, I think I'm going to go with the Ping G30's. From what I have read and heard from people that have used them they are the real deal. Price for a used set is around $450-600.

I bought a brand new set of Taylormade Speedblades A Wedge - 4 Iron for $350 on carlsgolfland.com and have been very happy with them. Very forgiving irons, good distance.

It's not the arrow, it's the Indian, chief.

When people say 'get fitted' where does one do that? Does this mean going to a Golfsmith and asking them if they can fit you on their machine? Or is there a more custom place to go?

if you want to stay with ping, G series irons are very forgiving

Golfsmith will usually have a Golftec located inside and this is where you need to go. Measures swing speed (driver & iron), ball speed, spin and etc. I think for $95 they will give you a 1 hour lesson. Well worth it. I was fitted for ping I20s black dot x stiff shaft.

It's my opinion that for 98% of people, going to a place like golfsmith for a fitting is fine. Hit off a lie board and find the best shaft for your driver. It's the board's opinion that everyone needs to schedule a fitting with a top 100 club fitter and get on TrackMan, which I think is ludicrous.

1 - Go to Edwin Watts
2 - select 5 to 10 different 6 irons from sets you think you may like
3 - start hitting balls into the net and eliminate all but 2
4 - sign out the remaining 2 6 irons, go to the course and use them
5 - eliminate 1 of them
6 - buy a custom fitted set of the other ones
You're welcome

If your going to buy old Pings then get eye 2's. I have a set that I don't play with now but will never get rid of. I wasn't as big a fan of the Zings.
If you get fit old eye 2's can be bent some to match your specs, however at that point I recommend going ahead and buying either a new set of Ping G irons or a used set of G's. I have been impressed with most all the G irons and I have a set of g15's that are nice.
At some point you will get better and want to move to more a players iron like the I series etc.
Also, I recommend for a less accurate golfer, that you consider putting the 3 iron,4 iron, and maybe 5 iron in the closet and get some Hybrids to take the place of the irons. Any cobra, ping, or Adams hybrids are good choices.

Its actually the opposite, the higher your handicap the more properly fitted clubs will help you.
Go see Leitz, Noel, or John Joy at Le Triomphe and get professionally fitted baw.
