OT Doctors: Lower back/buttock pain, Cluneal nerve pain/swelling.

My lower back and buttock (left side, just below the belt line) has been hurting me for the past several days.
I thought it was just a lower back strain, so I've been using my TENS unit on it a couple times a day. This usually loosens up the muscle and relieves it, but not this time.
This morning it was really hurting, so I laid in bed on my right side and started massaging where it hurt with my left hand. I could feel a small area just below my belt line on my upper buttock that felt like a bundle of nerves or tendons and that's where the pain was and it's noticeably swollen.
I did some Googling and noticed it's exactly where the cluneal nerve is and there's something called "cluneal nerve entrapment" that causes this pain. I've got an ice pack on it now and did some stretching exercises and it feels a little better.
Ever hear of this?

I felt something like this a couple weeks ago but I made an appointment with a doctor, not Google

What was it?
Besides, I like to do a little research before I go running off to the doctor.

Do you keep your wallet in your back left pocket and sit on it all day?

Sure, I do too if the problem doesn't persist along my spine.
There are too many ifs when it comes to that area. Go see a doctor

Well, like I said, I thought it was a muscle strain until a little while ago when I discovered the swelling.

Good to know.

Stop the anal sex for 6 weeks then ease back into it. You'll be fine

You have a herniated disc.

Doesn't that hurt like hell when you bend over or stretch?
This is just a constant pain on my left side.

Try some light hamstring, glutes, and piriformis stretches before seeking help.
Nothing too extreme.
You can find some good stretches for these groups online.
You might also try putting in a couple of miles on an elliptical machine as this will stretch most of the lower back & leg muscles as well.

Muscle strains swell, and would still be my first guess
Do you have any nerve symptoms? Numbness, tingling, weakness, radiculopathy, etc?

Thanks.
The stretching I did earlier and the ice pack are helping.
Just wondering if I'm going to have to go to a doctor or chiropractor or if it'll just heal itself.

Whenever I have serious medical issues I generally just skip the doctor and google to find out what's going on.

Just pain in my lower back/buttock. My left leg is fine, no pain.

Sounds like a trigger point. You could have a massage therapist do trigger point massage to the area a few days after you get your primary care physician to give you a steroid injection into the trigger point. As for the cause, go see a chiropractor or physical therapist who knows how to do spinal manipulation to the SI joint on that side.

I performed an appendectomy on myself a couple months ago after watching a YouTube video. Turned out great and saved me a bunch of money.

Not to be a smart arse but my Irish grandfather preached this cure all the time. For everything. Take a bottle of Jamiesions, get some on two fingers, rub it on the sore spot, and drink the rest. Guaranteed, he said, that you will not only not feel your back, you won't care bout it either.

Assuming it's muscular rather than skeletal, there's not much that can be done about it other than give it time.
Most physicians will recommend that you DO NOT give a sore lower back bed rest. Stay as active as you can stand, keep going with the light stretches, and you might try a lower back brace.
Also...beware of chiropractors. Not saying they don't have their place, but this certainly shouldn't be your first stop with lower back pain.
