OT car folks or mechanics. "Idle Stop"?

Had a new car today as a loaner. Having service done and got an Acura TLX. It has a feature I'd not heard of, and shop did not tell me about. "Idle Stop".
For those who may not know, the engine cuts out when you've made a complete stop. Red light or stop sign. Drive thru. I thought the car had transmission issues. With the quiet of a new engine and outside noise and stereo you can't tell the engine stopped. It's like driving a fancy gas golf cart. The instant you uncover break and step on gas it starts.
This SOUNDS hard on an engine to me. I am no mechanic by any stretch though. This can't be good right? Engine? Starter? Battery? Alternator? I would assume this feature is hell on one or all of them? To save how much gas?
TLDR.
Thoughts.?

They've been around for almost 10 years. I assume if there were major problems, we'd know by now.

Is this your first time encountering this?

They beef up the batteries and starters etc to compensate for this nonsense. It'll be on almost all new cars here pretty soon because it saves gas in the mileage test cycles.
I was probably in 5+ different cars the past two weeks from all sorts of foreign makers and not one of them was a pleasant situation.

How quick does it restart and get going from a dead idle stop?
Say you're the first car at a red light and a douche bag pulls up next to you in a lime green Honda Civic with an aftermarket whale fin spoiler on the back and gives you the go sign... Is the Idle Stop gonna hurt your chances to win his pink slip?

Have it on my vehicle. Don't care for it, don't use it.

So it CAN be disabled?

Yes, disable feature by the starter button. Has to be activated each time, though

It's terrible for an engine for a long list of reasons. Stupid EPA bullshite.
