Professional sports mogul and rancher Stan Kroenke, whose holdings include the Los Angeles Rams football team, has been approved to purchase the iconic W.T. Waggoner Ranch in north Texas, representatives of the sale announced Tuesday.
The historic property, considered the largest U.S. ranch behind one fence, had been on the market for 18 months at an asking price of $725 million.

The transaction will be the first-ever sale of the property, an approximately 535,000-acre estate which was established in 1849 and spans six Texas counties and almost 800 square miles. The ranch includes thousands of cattle, hundreds of horses and oil wells, and 30,000 acres of farmland.

I wouldn't go over to there and tell them you're "triggered". they may interpret that differently than they do in the city.

in all fairness, I think Stan had money before he married. Marrying the Walton girl just merged their wealth.

Kroenke, whose net worth is listed at $7.3 billion by Forbes, said in a prepared statement that he would continue to preserve and protect the Waggoner Ranch, which he called a "uniquely American treasure."

Hopefully he means that, but cynical me is pretty sure there are already plans on the table to subdivide it.

quote:

The property was listed in August 2014, at the end of a long-running family dispute among the heirs of ranch developer Tom Waggoner, which landed in court. Tuesday's announcement noted that District Judge Dan Mike Bird of the 46th Judicial District Court had allowed the ranch owners to proceed with a private transaction.

As part of the family dispute, Electra Waggoner Biggs, Tom Waggoner's granddaughter and a noted sculptor and socialite, filed a lawsuit to liquidate the estate. When the court approved the sale two years later, A.B. "Bucky" Wharton III, Biggs' grandson who still lives at the ranch, appealed.

Successions are a bitch. Blood may be thicker than water, but money is thicker than blood.

Always amazed at the amounts of land his company owns:

You own a lot of land if people can take expeditions through your properties:

OT ballers: starting today you can rent Ted Turner's 25,000 square foot, 7 BR, 9 bath home on the ranch...Vermejo Park Ranch (590,000 acres, on par with the size of Canyonlands, Zion and Redwood National Parks, combined)

Strange, I was actually thinking about what the latest was with this ranch earlier today. Hopefully, the new owner does preserve it.

He's only an OT Baller if he buys another 2 square miles to round out that 798 to an even 800.

subdivide it for what tho? Doesn't seem like there is any reason to do so- unless someone wants to get huge tracts for their own ranching ops. I just can't see the guy chopping it up.

There are a couple of lakes on the property, and it's only 20 miles from Wichita Falls.
