What times do you consider good, decent, and bad for 5K races?

I'm right at 25 to 25:30 on a good day for a 5k but I'm getting older and my joints are starting to really hurt after running on concrete for more than 3+ miles.

Dang, are you walking or something? I could do that when I was 14.

I know it's weak.

Used to get it at around 21:30.

I'm blaming age.

I run a 3 minute K, so right at 15 minutes...and change. That's only if I am not really trying.

This site lets you compare where you fall on the distribution of 5K times based on gender and age.

I ran a 5k a couple months ago. At 38 I was happy with a 25:02. It's weird because my pace doesn't really change whether I'm running a 5K or a half marathon. Must be more of a mental thing from being used to running longer distances.

53.

Can do it in 29, if it's a decent temp, can get to 28.

I'm 27 and usually hit low 20s but haven't actually ran for time in about a year. Feel like I can go sub 20 right now though

I love these threads. If you can't run a sub 25 minute 5K you are are fat and slow according to the OT. In reality I bet the average person can't run a 30 minute 5K.

Haven't ran more than 10 times combined the last 2 years, but I could probably go out and run under 19 right now. I'm young and not fat though.

Um.. The average person probably wouldn't even run 1K. I'm training for a half right now and I'm just jogging my whatever pace. I did 10 miles the other morning in about an hour and a halfish. It's probably around 10 minute miles and I don't give a rat's arse. If you can do a 5K in 30 minutes, it's fine.

Like some others have said, if you run a good bit (3+ times a week), I think 25 minutes is okay, but not stellar. But in relation to the general population, you are leaps and bounds ahead. I'd bet half this country couldn't run 5k. I haven't run in a long time, I'd be happy to break 30 minutes right now (especially when it's 100F outside).

I'd say for anyone over 21 y/o

<27min is good
<23min is advanced
<19min is competitive in age group races

I am 36 and run several days a week. However, I am not very fast since I just like to run lots of miles and am not very competitive. My last 5k was 20:01 (last year). I was a little annoyed that I missed breaking the 20 minute mark by 1 second, but had a good time at the race, and enjoyed lots of free beer.

It really doesn't matter. Very few folks here are actually going to be competitive runners in races, so just have fun. 25 min 5k isn't bad in my opinion.

My best time 17:50

Being an old Army puke, I always loved the 2 mile PT test. Best official score 10:21.
Best timed was sub 10.
