Open Water Swimming -- Lake Pontchartrain

I need a place to do some open water swimming on the New Orleans/Metairie side of the Lake. Any spots?
I will only have an hour or two.
Training for a mini-tri (1/2 mile swim, 20 mile bike, 3.1 mile run) and I have almost no open water experience. Need to get some, and I will have a break in the action Tuesday afternoon while travelling back from CBD westbound.
Any help appreciated. TIA.

The triathlon club swim hole is at the intersection of Rail Dr. and the lake. It's nice.

Shark bites give you some serious street cred

Don't go by yourself. You have no experience. Getting a cramp or pull is nothing to mess around with never mind in a distance swim or open water.

Won't be my first. If it's my last, well hell, I'll go out with a bang.

Find a pool.
Do that several times a week. Need open water experience.

Wear some ID, no sense in causing more work for others.

What's the difference in swimming in a pool vs a lake?
Not the obvious, but like is it a different swimming technique or what?
