One of the tougher things to do in life

Woke up to our family lab not getting up, just laying beside her bowl, struggling to breathe. She was 15 yrs old and we knew this day was coming. Didn't want her to suffer so I had to put her down myself. Rest peacefully Avery!

Been there.
But if you love them you've got to be the man.
Sorry bro.

Sorry to hear that. It's always tough to lose a family pet. Putting her down was the right thing to do even if you had to do it.

So sorry.... I cried harder putting my 15 year old dog down then when my grandma died....

Stay strong. Sounds like you did what was best and what needed to be done....like a man

Sorry to hear that. First pet I ever owned was a pug that lived for 15 years....we put her down last year. I thought I could handle it until she was laying on the vet's table and looked right at me as he injected the serum.
Tore me in half...
Tore me in half...

I don't want to go into details, too painful dude. Digging her grave gave me some peace in an odd way. She lived a good life and I know she's not suffering anymore.
And I find out it's National Dog Day or something like that...

"There is a cycle of love and death that shapes the lives of those who choose to travel in the company of animals. It is a cycle unlike any other. To those who have never lived through its turnings and walked its rocky path, our willingness to give our hearts with full knowledge that they will be broken seems incomprehensible. Only we know how small a price we pay for what we receive; our grief, no matter how powerful it may be, is an insufficient measure of the joy we have been given."

I yelled at my pupper right before opening this thread because he was begging for a shrimp.
I feel like the biggest pile of shite now. Sorry for your loss bud. Dogs are the best.

One of the worst days is loosing that faithful friend who only wants to be with you every day. Sorry for your loss.

That sucks! The dog I had before the two dogs I have now, was MY first dog.. As in, not the family dog. I have always had a dog, but him being my first dog and being the person he would come to from everything to when something scared him to when he needed someone to open the door for him to go out.. there was more than a bond. He was 12 when I had to put him down and I cried like a like a baby for several days. In fact, I got the first of the two dogs I have now several days after putting the other one down to help me get over having to put him down..

Got an older lab mix. Maybe 13 years old. He's in good health internal wise, just got a good clean bill of health at the vet, but he has arthritis and its hard for him to stand up . He can walk OK-ish once up, but I have to try to lift him up so he can go outside to the bathroom. He does have incontinence, too.
I know it won't get any better for him, so we will keep going along. for now.

Most will vilify this line of thinking.
But I share it.
I have three dogs buried side by side on the corner of the property. My last was 9 years old when he had congestive heart failure. Got to wehere he couldn't stand up.
I dug the hole for him. Helped him stand up, and he walked himself out to where the hole was and laid down on the blanket beside it.
Had he not let me know it was time, I never could have done it. He was four weeks old when I got him and I'm tearing up now just thinking about him.
