Sorry to hear. Does the current doctor recommend someone or do they just send you on your way?

Dr. Kaufman was recommended. His Healthgrade reviews are good but for options and second opinions sake I'm still looking

I used Dr. Cole, but he up and retired. His practice is the Lourdes Oncology group. I've been very happy with my treatment through them. prayers sent

My dad was diagnosed with lung cancer in May and we have been fortunate to have a great chemo and radiation oncologist here in LC at St Pats.
The chemo Dr used to work at MD Anderson. The radiation Dr is a certified genius. Graduated HS at 14 or something and was a Radiation Oncologists by 22. They have both been outstanding and have gone above and beyond.
If you don't find anything in Laffy they could both be a great option for y'all.
Good luck

My grandmother was at MD Anderson with a brain tumor. They were amazing and she lived nearly 20 years after having the brain tumor removed.
I guess we will start with Kausman tomorrow and move from there.
Thanks to all

If possible, see if the provider who ordered the scan will order a colonoscopy so the tumor can be biopsied as soon as possible and send the labs to the oncologist. He/she will want the pathology to set a plan in place (surgery vs chemo vs radiation). If you can get a jump on it now, it may save a few days/weeks down the line. Also, there is always the chance the biopsy will reveal it's benign.

Dr. Michael Cain deserves a mention.
And he's not a dirty rotten scoundrel.

He had a colonoscopy within the year and a half. They found something but it was small and the doctor assured him it was nothing, now it's been growing since then.

This is everyone's first thoughts but sometimes that does more harm than good for more common cancers. If you have a very rare cancer then yes go but there are lot's of reasons we did not take my dad.
- On a fairly common cancer when a new treatment is discovered at MD Anderson it is spread through the nation pretty quick and hospitals all adopt it.
- Rest and having energy when dealing with chemo is important and being away from home can suck energy out of the patient since they never get to rest like they can at home.
- Convenience
- Having multiple friends and family that can help out if needed
I could go on but it doesn't make as much sense to go to MD unless you are battling a pretty rare cancer or just have no other options.
My cousin had breast cancer and went to MD but they ended up just setting up her treatments and everything here because it was something that could be treated here and not necessary to go to MD for.
