Olympic Elite stain . . . can anyone offer a review?

I am covering my patio and adding an outdoor kitchen. I will have cypress columns and 1x6" cypress V-groove on the exterior of the kitchen and on the ceiling. Can anyone offer a review of Olympic Elite stain which, per their reference materials and the "expert" at Lowes, does not need a polyeurethane sealant as it is part of the stain. Supposedly one thin coat is all that is required.
Would this stain work as well as a product like Minwax plus a sealant?
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

Elite does not need a polyurethane topcoat, and I believe that Cabot (a better product IMO) has one as well. From all my years in the paint business, I have told customers that using a clear coat in an exterior application is likely going to be a headache, because it then becomes a maintenance issue.
Clears are broken down so quickly when used exterior, UV kills them. Even spars. That's why stained / varnished exterior doors look like crap in a few years time. Expect recoating a clear every 18 months or so.
That said, the more you can keep these coatings from UV exposure (i.e. under a porch, etc.) the better they will perform. Just my .02
Edit...DO NOT use Minwax stain for exterior applications; their Helmsman spar is a pretty decent product, however it has a limited lifespan as well.
