Oil service companies in BR?

Im a senior PETE major graduating next May and am looking for a service job I could find for this summer. Very few explorations companies are hiring engineer interns this summer and I didn't land any that I had interviews with. My next best bet is a service company regardless of how small they are. I know most service companies in South LA are in the Lafayette/New Iberia area, but I have to stay here and take Strengths over the summer so anything in this area would be best.

Oh lord, this should go well

Wait so you want to intern and take strengths at the same time? That should go well.

The class is from 12-120 everyday. I know that's in the heat of the day, but if any would take me knowing I couldn't work then I'd be happy

Sorry man, you're out of luck.. BR isn't an oil town.. You will have to incorporate Lafayette into this, either by living there and commuting for school or taking strengths at ULL.
I was in your boat once. The industry is brutal in downswings to average students without job experience. Have you tried talking to the well facility at LSU? They hire students.. The pay is bad but it's something to put on your resume and you can make contacts.

yea careers 2 geaux does a very poor job in getting PETE students internships. There were between 500-600 students applying for internships. I think 8 or 9 majors came in for interviews. Some of those companies didn't even take interns, they held interviews just to hold their position on campus. Somewhere between 20-25 students out of the 500-600 got internships.

$45 dollar oil is not that conducive to summer interns, sorry.
I'm a low level manager (small team of 5) ; and I've been told by my boss that we don't have the budget for interns.
Maybe you can look into a DOE , BOMER, or BSEE job. Fed Gov simply prints money when times get tough.

Strengths is tough? I did not know that.

It's not careers2geaux's fault. 8 or 9 majors is a lot and comparable to all the good petroleum schools There are two problems here:
1) oil price is $44/barrel
2) everyone and their grandma is trying to be a petroleum engineer
The job market right now just can't handle that many people trying to get in.

I came here to say this.
