I'm curious of what would be better, land or water

I'm pretty sure water is the answer by a wide margin

That't what I would figure as well, but wasn't sure if there was something else I wasn't considering.

Drowning, the fact water isn't all that soft when coming in at speed/height, difficulties deplaning/opening doors with water all around trying to rush in, etc.

The doors are a higher than the bottom of the fuselage and there are exits in the cockpit as well. The tail kind of sinks while mid to forward is slanted up if that makes sense. Water is 100% preferred.

Land all the way in my opinion. Its incredibly difficult to land a plane on water. What the guy did in the hudson was phenomenal/incredibly lucky.

I'd rather put a plane down in a field vs the water any day of the week.

My guess would be land is preferred, if the goal is to survive the crash landing (both will be deadly if you're heading nose down towards earth, obviously).

It seems like water would be harder to judge on landing, and the plane's reaction upon impact would be much more unpredictable. Plus, if you do survive, you're still in the ocean.

Just noticed that this was already posted, but oh well...

In a more radical theory, the possibility of electronic warfare has also been raised following confirmation that there were at least 20 passengers onboard from Texas-based Freescale Semiconductor. Each of these passengers had specialist knowledge of electronic technology for defence applications.

This could include ‘cloaking’ technology that uses a hexagonal array of glasslike panels to bend light around an object, such as plane, according to a report in Beforeitsnews.com.

Other techniques may have been used to jam signals, allowing the plane to vanish from radar detection without its security systems being activated.

‘It is conceivable that the Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 plane is “cloaked,” hiding with hi-tech electronic warfare weaponry that exists and is used,’ Beforeitsnews.com wrote.

‘In fact, this type of technology is precisely the expertise of Freescale that has 20 employees on board the missing flight.’
‘These were people with a lot of experience and technical background and they were very important people,’ Mr Mitch Haws, Global communications officer for the tech company, said.

The company recently launched a major initiative dedicated to serving radio frequency power needs of U.S. aerospace and defence sector.

it's "very clear," according to CBS News aviation and safety expert Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger, that whatever happened to the plane happened "suddenly" and "perhaps catastrophically."

quote:

Sullenberger said it's possible for the plane to be in distress and no communication made with officials on the ground.

disagree that, at the point at which the last known location is currently being marked at, there was a risk of it hitting a populated area.

Perhaps to take it down over water rather than land to minimize the damage. Perhaps it was taken down further than where they are saying it was last reported.

Off topic, but wasn't it you who posted the cool pics of the northern lights a while back. You don't have a link to that, do you?

Yeah, not sure which pics were posted though. I've got a bunch of them. Hit me up later on the OB board and I'll post some of them.

im guessing the answer can vary widely, situationally.

in this case, having not been found for a week, im guessing families are hoping for land at this point.
