A potential sale of the former Six Flags park in New Orleans East will undergo a formal review over the next month after the city Industrial Development Board got three offers to buy the decaying site -- including a surprise bid from an attorney who stood up during the board's meeting Tuesday (Feb. 14) to offer $5.5 million.

quote:

Three people made offers for the 224-acre property Tuesday -- $3.26 million from a group proposing a return of a Jazzland amusement park, $4.55 million from a developer pitching an amusement park and "city within a city," and $5.5 million from a developer's representative who didn't give details about his group's plans.

quote:

By the end of the meeting, Frank Scurlock, who wants to build an amusement park and "city within a city" called Transformation Village on the site, said because the board didn't accept his group's $4.55 million cash offer Tuesday, he would withdraw his bid and explore developing an adventure zip line and water park in Jefferson Parish. Later Tuesday, Scurlock said he would submit a new written offer to the board in two weeks.

Meanwhile, Wolf said the Industrial Development Board -- which wasn't intended to serve as a landlord, can't afford to maintain the Six Flags property indefinitely. According to a financial report, the board has $239,000 in the bank and expects to spend $210,000 on maintaining Six Flags, most
of which is spent on 24-hour
quote:

The proceeds of a sale would Likely go back to the city, although that would need board approval, he said.
likely huh?

I also enjoy how the 3 panel board seem to be leaning towards the lowest bid.... someone needs a crash course on how bidness deals get worked out around her.... deals can't be approved with palms still squeaking.... amatures

I thought I read the lowest bid was the only one that was submitted properly. Sounds like someone fully understands how business works...

Which makes perfect sense. It isn't like there is that much empty land or developments in The East.

This was discussed on the OT back when the meeting happened and the general consensus is that the Board is delaying things until they get their kick backs. It's the LA way.

According to this article, if I offer the lowest amount, then I'm likely to win the bidding. Classic NOLA ethics. I wonder how much it takes to buy off someone on that shitty board. $100?

They need to sell it to a petro/chemical plant. Create more jobs plus that area already smells

He might get in a bidding war with Alexander Shunnarah. How many billboards you think can fit on this site?

This shite has been going on since 2007. I don't have faith that anything will come of this. There's probably been 10-15 different proposals over the past 10 years, and the shite always falls through or gets rejected. I can't imagine there is any value other than scrap for what remains on the property. The last "viable" option the city selected was a damn outlet mall. An outlet mall in NO East. Great fricking idea which of course was squashed as soon as the riverwalk was redeveloped.

I just feel, because of location, that it doesn't matter how much money they spend or what they put there, it will go to shite in about 5 years

I suggest "Transitioning Village". It would be fabulous.

i like to abuse you frickers cause its so easy to get all riled up

but this would work

with all the crime, a City within a City with security shopping, coffee shops and Townhomes/Condo/Apartments and green space would EASILY make up this investment

I would only work if they built a wall like Vatican City, with it entrance, and one exit, and a massive private funded police force.
