NY cops drive suspected bomb away from crowds in Times Square

A random man threw a bomb, turned out to be fake, onto the dashboard of a police car. The two officers immediately drove the car away from the crowd of people. Brought it to a secure location before calling in the bomb squad

After an hours-long standoff and a bomb squad evaluation, police decided to extricate the suspect.
I am thinking "extricate" is code for whip the crap out of him. I like it.
