No, I'm calling bull shite on your laughable number of 6 on a weekend night. DOn't try to move the goalposts.

Policing the just the French Quarter and on-duty that isn't a laughable number sadly its more accurate. Typically only 6-9 active on-duty NOPD officers actually patrol Bourbon Street on the weekend nights with other NOPD officers (typically another 7 to 12) are assigned to "calls for service" for the entire district on weekends. The lack of manpower in the French Quarter district is one of the reasons the NOPD had to added holding cells in the Vieux Carre station because they couldn't afford to have a 8th district cop transport someone they arrested to Central Lock-up.

Sidney Torres was paying privately funding the French Quarter Task Force and paying off-duty NOPD officers $50 an hr out of his own pocket to supplement the depleted French Quarter patrol until Mitch Landrieu kicked him out and took it over and now there is only 2 off-duty NOPD officers. This is why the Louisiana State Police had to supplement the NOPD manpower shortage with an additional 6 to 8 per night LSP officers just in the French Quarter.

The NOPD's Eighth district stretches from the Pontchatrain Expressway (Miss River to Superdome) (South) to Pont Expressway to Canal Street then Rampart to Elysian Fields (West) then Elysian Fields to Miss River (North) then Elysian Fields at Miss River to Euterpe St at Miss River (East). (i.e. the French Quarter, Marigny Triangle, Marigny Rectangle, CBD, Warehouse District, Superdome/Arena, and Convention Center areas).

When the Police Chief says that "50 police officers" were "working that area" the night of the double assault. He is not only counting the Louisiana State Police, French Quarter Task Force (off-duty), NOPD officers working the entire 8th District, Administrative staff working in the NOPD's Vieux Carre 8th District office, Orleans Parish Sheriff's Deputies working off-duty for private functions, and other NOPD officers who were working private details in the area.

So yes sadly the 6 active on-duty NOPD officers he saw is believable.

You seem upset. Your city is dangerous and underserved by police. Won't kill you to admit that.

This same bullshite gets posted one every one of these threads. No one is saying that. NOLA has major issues. That has nothing to do with the bullshite you spouted earlier that I'm calling you on.

I think 6 sounds like a worst case scenario and I still don't believe you.

Robbery reported French Quarter; 3 teens arrested, NOPD says

The second incident occurred about 1:16 a.m. Wednesday morning in the French Quarter, when a 31-year-old man said three teens approached, grabbed his shirt and demanded money. The man ran from the would-be robbers in the 800 block of Burgundy Street, but later noticed them again and followed them. Two boys, 15 and 17 years old, and a 17-year-old girl were arrested, police said.

The 17-year-olds were identified as Robert Hall and Destiny Goodman. The 15-year-old boy's name was not released because police said he was booked as a minor.

Props to the 31 year old who decided to do his own detective work and had three teenagers arrested in the French Quarter after they robbed him.

NOLA threads make some otherwise decent posters turn into complete buffoons.

Article on one man's opinion on a solution to the crime epidemic

WAYNE DUCOTE IS A NEW ORLEANS BUSINESSMAN

quote:

I have come to the conclusion that it will be impossible to take back our streets when our officers are in handcuffs. I’m referring, of course, to the NOPD consent decree, which privileges protocol over policing, binding our officers while criminals run free.

quote:

One of the consent decree’s problems is that officers feel their ability to interact with citizens and identify criminals on the street is reduced. Eight years ago, the primary problem with the NOPD may have been constitutional policing, but today, it is effective policing. The consent decree has accomplished its job, and it’s now time to abolish it.

Spotting troublemakers is not rocket science. When police spot stalkers tracking visitors in the French Quarter, there's a 100 percent chance that suspicious characters are up to no good. We need to empower our police force to identify and prevent criminal activity before it’s too late with an aggressive, but constitutional, interaction.

To do this, we must abolish the consent decree.

quote:

we need to complement the NOPD with a private security force in the French Quarter and the Central Business District.

quote:

New Orleans must employ the same resources it levied against the perceived threats to the Confederate monuments’ removal. According to news reports, the price tag for extra security for the removal totaled more than $1 million. The addition of 100 security officers in the French Quarter and Central Business District is a necessary step for safety and peace in a city besieged by crime. And it will allow much-needed existing NOPD officers to remain on their beats in neighborhoods across the city.

quote:

the city should raise officer pay and make 500 lateral hires within the next six months. The immediate addition of 500 officers, working without the constraints of a crippling and expensive consent decree, is crucial to solving this crisis of public safety.

Jesus Christ man your battle cry is always "oh that's all rhetoric, show me the proof" or "you're making that shite up give me facts to Back it up." Someone actually does and your response is "I don't believe you."

Talk about banging your head against a brick wall.
