I received a red light camera ticket in the mail that accused me of going 11 MPH over the speed limit on Canal St. It says within city/county and state aforesaid Jake(address) driver did unlawfully operate/drive (vehicle info) did then and there commit the following offense…

The problem is, I wasn't driving, my wife (she'd never take pics) was driving. I was at the Saints game at the time.

It's only $110 but this shite pisses me off. I've paid in the past because I didn't want to risk a boot. I'm irritated enough to contest it. Do I have a case? And, no, I won't settle on just paying court costs, frick them.

Oh, and because of this I PIIHB.

Send the mayor a letter of protest until the monuments are taken down.

Yep, my wife was probably triggered passing by those Confederate soldiers graves's monuments in Metairie Cemetery and was hurrying away.

But I don't want those assholes booting me if they spot the plate while I'm parked in town.

I wonder if you can prove it wasn't you driving what happens, tickets Facebook pic of you inside the stadium etc. Or even better a picture of your wife driving your car from the traffic cam.

Not that it really matters, they just want the $$$.

I know other people in other states have gotten off because it could not be proven who was driving. The ticket specifically names me. I was watching a dogshit performance in the Dome, intoxicated, at the time that camera took the picture. I've got no pictures of me at the game because it's a regular occurrence.

Someone should form a citizens brigade dedicated to destroying those fricking cameras.

I've never been ticketed by one, but the hypocrisy and money grubbing behind them boils my blood.

IDK everyone has a right to face their accuser, if I go to court will a camera show up to testify against me?

The right to face your accuser is only in criminal cases. This would be a civil matter, so that argument doesn't work.

Don't pay it. Worst that happens is they hit your credit for not paying. All you have to do then is dispute it on the grounds that there was no signed agreement that you would pay it (that's why you have to sign for credit purchases). Problem solved. Just get a credit karma account and monitor for it to pop up in around 6 mos.

These things only work because they exploit the common person's nature to follow the rules. My beef is not that they caught me speeding or that I have to pay, but at least with a local ticket your ticket money funds the police department and gives someone a job. Most of these cameras in po-dunks don't employ a single person in state, they hire an out-of-state agency to manage the whole thing for a massive percentage of the citation.

That sucks, I have good credit. As I understand it, credit disputes are difficult and a pain in the arse to fight.

Plus, what about the boot?

I'm thinking a suppressed 22 could stop most of them pretty quickly.

I got A red light camera ticket in Corpus Christi Texas 5 years ago. I never paid it & nothing has happened. every 6 months or so I get a letter in the mail telling me that I need to pay it, i simply throw it in the trash. It has never gone on my credit report & it can't go on your driving record either. The only thing that has happened due to this ticket is that they send me mail a few times a year...

You should be mad at you wife. What was she doing driving that fast?

I seriously don't understand how people constantly get caught by these cameras. It truly baffles my mind. They're clearly marked.
