Sounds like a good idea but.......what a waste of premium waterfront property.

If the proposal wins final approval, the museum will be located at the Celeste Street Wharf in the Lower Garden District.

The proposed $170 million museum will include a life-size interactive slave ship built inside a new five-story building and a riverfront park with an amphitheater and two replica African villages.t.

I'm curious as to who is paying for it, not many details in that article.

Supporters say the museum will enhance and perpetuate New Orleans' status as a major cultural hub and destination by recreating the saga of the African Diaspora story of slave trade in the United States along the Mississippi River, via the Port of New Orleans.

$170 million museum
life-size interactive slave ship
two replica African villages.

The museum complex will also include.... a DNA lab

As a part of the museum experience, visitors will have the opportunity to travel aboard a fully functioning replica slave ship that will sail to Natchez, Miss., and Scott's Bluff in Baton Rouge, located near Southern University.

I'm sure there won't be an ounce of corruption associated with this.

Are you referring to the wwii museum? Because that's anything but a "white" museum

This is a museum that will allow people to connect to the tragedy that was slavery, not a black pride museum.

I assumed he was referring to the Confederate Museum.

There's a Confederate museum a few doors down from WWII museum.

Because it's about as tiny and non-descript a museum as you will ever see. I think it has pretty much always subsisted on purely private money, as well.

I'd welcome a similarly scaled museum dedicated to the remembrance of slavery in the South in the city. A $176 million, no-doubt graft filled boondoggle, though ... ?

Also, it seems the slave ship cruise idea is about the tackiest sounding thing I've ever heard -- if not, down right offensive.

Think it will mention the Africans and muslims that participated in/enslaved/sold the slaves to the Europeans ?

There is already a pretty impressive "Slave Museum" built and funded by a White NOLA attorney. This redundant feel good bullshite, less than 30 miles away, is indeed a tremendous waste of real estate and money. As is usually the case, the private sector has done it, and did it better.
