No frill cigar shop in BR?

Where to go for good cigars without the bs "high end retail" price tag in BR? Or is this what the cigar market just is now?

just when you checkout, ask for the no frills price and they can keep their $2 purchase bag.

The place on Acadian is pretty much low frill, or at least it was when I went, but that was several years ago.

It's what the cigar business is, now. You've got more taxes, the SCHIP tax is levied against the manufacturers based on warehouse inventory. That, then, has to be passed onto the wholesaler, and then to the retailers.
The prices, then, charged to the tobacconists are higher, so the prices in shops are higher.
I haven't been to a cigar shop in B.R. in almost 20 years. I see that Bayou is still open, though. It was fairly "no frills" back then, but had great selection. Is that still the case? Habana Port in Covington, before they moved, had great selection, as well. Don't know about it's sibling in Baton Rouge, however.

You always pay a premium at a cigar shop. But, if you can't wait for an online shipment from cigarsinternational, go to churchills or that cigar shop on perkins (Don Julio's?). I like Churchills personally but never been to don julio's, though my brother in law said the owners there are very helpful and knowledgeable.
I don't care for Don Juan's next to whole foods. The people that work there don't want to help, at least the times i've been. There's always about 5 or 6 guys sitting on the couches smoking and the workers/owners are tending to them the whole time. I also find they don't have that good of a selection.
Online is the way to go, but if not, go churchills or don julio's

I met the guy that owns Don Julio's on Perkins, that's not too far from campus right? This was at the IPCPR trade show in New Orleans, last year. He was trying Marrero Cigars, a brand from Costa Rica. They guy that owns the company Joel Vazquez-Marrero, is a pretty nice guy, and had all the time in the world to talk.
Don Julio's is a start-up or a newer shop, give them a shot.

I love Churchills. You can check out Ra shop too by LSU. Not a huge selection, but they seem cheaper.

Bayou Tobacco on Acadian would be your best bet.

From a shop...yes, it's the way it is. The best deals on cigars are on the internet. Cigars International is pretty good. There are plenty other sites too.
