To early to speculate. Height shouldn't matter. You should always tie off. Who knows what happened....

Are those guys secured in that photo?

Yea people were saying 4 stories. But I will wait for the facts to be released. Very sad day though, because I work over 60 ft up every day just hits home for me

Are they sure it wasn't a suicide yet?

My sources said it was a young guy. 22-25yrs old.
I hate to hear these things.

I don't think safety harnesses had been invented at that point.

This. Nothing worse than people making assumptions about this stuff.

Word is fall protection failed.

When I was working for Fluor Daniels at the Cat Feed Hydrotreater, I slipped on a wet pipe (just came back after a thunderstorm but not enough to rain us out). I fell until my harness caught me. Very scary to say the least. I think I made up my mind at that point my engineering degree in my back pocket was better than my pipefitting knowledge in my head. I was about 30-40 feet up....
Always tie off.
Always tie off.

That's what I heard from a performance guy. Have to wait and see for sure though. Very sad.

That is NOT good if true.

How? I wonder if his harness had been inspected recently or if there was some defect.
Horrible tragedy. Have to appreciate and respect that danger lurks everywhere on jobs like these.

That will be the first questions asked.
Was it inspected?
Was it in good condition?
Was he wearing it properly?

Heard he was going down a scaffold, was moving his harness, slipped and fell, and hit two scaffolds on the way down.
He was 23...
