NJ gov "saves" kids from spider; PETA issues statement

When New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie tweeted that he had "saved a few school children from a spider," PETA was probably the last thing he had on his mind.

TRENTON, N.J. — New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie wasn't in a pardoning mood when an itsy, bitsy spider crawled on his desk while the governor spoke to a group of school children.

The students spotted the insect near the governor's phone on Friday. Speaking softly, Christie gave the spider a smack down.

The governor told the students that another fun part of being governor is you're allowed to kill any bugs on your desk without getting into trouble.

Christie tweeted that he had "saved a few school children from a spider."

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals President Ingrid Newkirk issued a statement saying Christie probably killed it without thinking. Newkirk said "some people put the spider outside, but spiders are often scary" and that can prevent them from pondering their worth.

@ PETA knighting for a spider

Anything to make a headline for themselves. Sadly the media doesn't report all the times PETA has been caught inhumanely killing animals and dumping their bodies in random dumpsters or else I am sure they would get a lot fewer donations.

They'd really hate me then for beheading snakes with a vengance.

so does PETA expect people to let mosquitoes pester on in their homes and such, without killing them?

i know, it's a completely difference nuisance, but i thought PETA usually drew a line between actual animals and insects and/or arachnids.
