I've trained for three marathons using both Nike and Asics shoes. I sustained some sort of injury every time in the Nike Lunar Glide shoe once distances got long and never in the Asics Nimbus shoe so now I just buy Asics. Learned the hard way by trial and error.
Everyone is different though and has a different running style so I'd go to a legit running store and have them look at you run on a treadmill and then give you a few options.
