Nick Saban, head coach of the men’s football team at the University of Alabama, is paid more than $7 million annually. He is the highest paid employee of all U.S. workers employed by a local or state government.
To determine the highest-paid public employee in each state, 24/7 Wall St. considered reports of public salaries based on state government payrolls and public documents. All college football and basketball coach salaries are based on USA Today’s consolidated list of NCAA coach salaries, which includes pay for 2015 in the case of football and 2016 in the case of basketball. In the case where a coach received a raise or was recently hired, the more recent available information was used. All data are based on the most recent available information.

Such a misleading stat, if anything like how LSU does it. Les miles gets paid a healthy salary by LSU but the bulk of his salary comes from TAF. I'd imagine Saban is similar. So the "public" part of that is much smaller.
ETA: I Think Mile's actual state compensation is under 500k. The rest of that giant salary comes from private TAF money.

Yeah, we've done this thread before. Everyone pointed out that the state pays very little of these salaries.

How much money does Kayvan get for his jersey?

It's clear now why some State U's have underperforming athletics programs...

almost all schools do it like this. Salary around 100-400k rest taken care of by marketing commitments and donations

This facebook story has been proven to be a complete bastardization of the facts. This is for the gullible liberal masses.

You never know...
Even with the chunk of salary not coming from the state, Muschamp is still the #2 highest paid public employee in SC at $500,000/yr. Ray Tanner, the AD, is #1.
#6, #7, and #8 are Jeff Dillman, Kurt Roper, and T-Rob.
For reference: Governor Haley makes $106k, nowhere near the top of the list.

Depends on the state. Bellotti gets a $.5M pension from the taxpayers of Oregon every year because of his "public pay," which included endorsement deals and private money. Total bullshite.

Why do you hate people that work in the public sector? This is why we need MOAR unions!!!!!

Show me a state where the football employee isn't the leading earner in the state and I will show you a bad football team.

I will say Pat Summitt's annuity that could also be paid for Tyler's life is totally insane and something you never see in the private sector. But, she earned it ten-fold in a way, I guess.

Why am I not shocked that Nevada has a plastic surgeon as highest paid.

Lets play : One of these does not belong :)
Charlie Strong, University of Texas football coach, Texas - $5.16 million
I like the guy but he's won one big game

They're doing it right up in Maine. The highest paid public official makes a quarter of a million a year and the governor's wife had to get a part time job waitressing.

Which basketball coach in Florida is paid higher than a football coach, or is that graphic from when Billy Donovan was still at Florida?
