I see they are cutting down/clearing the trees on the land adjacent to the railroad by McDonald's, Southgate etc. I know that Nicholson is supposed to be 4 laned from Walk Os to Lee under the Green Light project. Anyone know if the clearing of trees is part of the site work for upcoming road construction on Nicholson?

I saw that and was hoping it was related.

There are also a lot of survey marker stakes that just went up at the brightside / Nicholson intersection. Mostly on brightside near the train tracks.

Probably building a 1000 unit apartment complex.

Not sure...that's why I asked. I was hoping they would actually do something smart for a chance and start construction while LSU was out of school. Although given the length of time this project is going to take, I'm not sure there will really ever be a good time to start the project.

I am certain the road widening is no where near construction phase. You are correct, probably another apartment complex coming your way.

Preliminary work for the road project was done about 5-7 years ago, so it should break ground for construction by 2020 given the cities usual turn around

The city, state & whatever firms working the project will blame the big scary railroad for any delays. The railroad is the easy excuse for any delayed project in that area. They went 30 years without having left turn arrows on Nicholson at brightside. The railroad was always their convenient excuse.

I don't think it's close to construction. The GLP website doesn't have very much updated information on the project right now, but it's been in planning for a long time. Someone mentioned something about the railroads...I am not privy to much information on this particular project, but I would imagine that any widening of Nicholson adjacent to the railroad there would definitely be a conflict of both Nicholson ROW and railroad ROW.

Why would they stop at Lee?

They should extend it all the way to Gonzales. Boom there's half of your loop. the only thing left to do would then to build a bridge connecting LA 1 in the West Bank with Nicholson/Hwy 30 on the east back somewhere between brusly and Plaquemine.

I think they are waiting on the state to change the grade of the Brightside/Lee railroad crossing and do the projects together.

It should be 4 lanes minimum between brightside and Burbank as well as between LA44 and LA73. Ideally, it (and LA431) should be 4 lanes from downtown BR to Port Vincent.

You ever try working with a railroad on a construction project? There is nothing easy in dealing with any of them.

Not making excuses for BR's glacial pace of getting projects done, but the rail roads are no easy excuse.

This is very true. The railroads have a ton of power. Agreements signed back in the 19th century make it damn near impossible for states to compel them to do anything, and the federal government generally treats them with kid gloves. They're nearly untouchable.

Pretty sure it takes an act of congress to obtain ROW from a railroad, assuming they would have to in this case.

Try getting them to actually show up to a meeting, or if they do, to send people that have authority to do anything other than take notes.

Looks like they aren't even in the design phase:

This article says construction to start in 2019:

As far as the Lee/Brightside/Nicholson light, looks like this project just will never get going:

According to this article, construction was projected to start in October 2013:

According to this article, the design phase and advertisement for construction was anticipated to take place by spring/summer of 2015:

While it does provide them with a convenient excuse, most of the time it is accurate as well, they basically just say frick you we aren't agreeing to anything the majority of the time, and the laws are behind them.
