Instead of cabbage and black eye peas, it should be pizza and fried chicken.

I infuse THC in my cabbage. Everyone gets high as hell and thinks it's the mimosas

As the main dishes, sure they suck but when used as sides they work ok. This should be on the FDB.

Valentine's Day is worse simply due to the chalky candy hearts.

Smother the cabbage with chorizo. It hides the assey smell.

Make cabbage rolls. Add Tasso to your black eye peas and cook a crown pork roast. Big bottle of a nice cab and you get all the tasty health and wealth you can ask for.

I use regular sausage in my cabbage. Ham works well in it too

When I was a kid and our family was big we'd go to my aunts on NYD and have greens and black eyed peas. I just thought it was what we did so never questioned it. We stopped doing it a while back as family shrank but I've seen that, obviously, this is a "thing" elsewhere and not just for our family. what is the background here? How did those foods come to be a tradition on NYD?

This year I'm skipping the cabbage that we usually have and cooking greens (mustard, collards, turnips combo) with smoked turkey wings. Throw in cornbread and blackyeyed peas, and it's a pretty good meal.

Use red cabbage and throw in some sugar and apples and cider vinegar. The only problem is that you wind up with purple money for the year.
