Food: American Sector for lunch (behind the WWII museum), Cochon for dinner (it is one of my favorites), Luke for brunch, Herbsaint (another great Donald Link restaurant),Restaurant R'evolution (John Folse, super pricey but worth the money.) 1179 (1179 Annunciation, Italian),
brunch at Lucy's, Rum House on Magazine has good drinks and cheap, good tacos

Go watch Jeremy Davenport play at the Ritz
Loa is a nice bar
Oak on Oak Street (bar)
Goldmine for late night dancing and flaming Dr. Peppers. Go here only if you are wasted and in the mood for a shite show.
Pat O's
The Columns (bar)
Lafitte's in the Quarter
Carousel Bar in the Monteleone
Polo Lounge in the Windsor Court

I'd recommend Monteleone if she's never been there. Nice hotel with a cool bar that's in a good location. If you want good food recommendations, try the food board. There's a shitload of places to choose from if you give them exactly what you are looking for.

No offense, but you should probably expand your boudin experiences.

...and you recommend?

I'm not from LA and didn't grow up with boudin. I don't like REAL boudin and recommend Cochon's for non-LA residents to try a chef version of it.

re: New Orleans Vacation
Thanks for all the info. I looked into all of the hotels you all mentioned, went with Maison DuPuy with a Balcony for $179 a night, Sunday through Thursday. 555 Canal Street, 2 blocks from Bourbon.

As far as the weather, my wife is in post grad at UGA and can't go during the spring. Even Spring Break, when you are in grad school, you don't get to party, you have work to do. We are from the South, even lived in Charleston for 3 years, vacation in Florida in the peak of the summer every year since we were kids, we are used to the humidity and heat. That's what cold beer is for.

So, I'm at $800 including the 13% hotel tax for 4 nights. If I bring another $800 with me, we should have a good time.

Again, I've been there twice, but my wife never has and is infatuated with the romance and mystique of the city... this trip is for her, not me. For those comments like "Just go to the beach" I'm with you... I could spend just the $800 and have a blast in Destin/Gulf Shores for a week.

re: New Orleans Vacation
If you ever want a non-summer trip, you can't beat the Christmas thing at Royal Sonesta. It is a beautiful hotel right on Bourbon Street, and they decorate it very nicely for Christmas. They run a special around Christmas time with rooms for $129/night, which I think is half price. We did it last year and had a room overlooking Bourbon Street. They also have school groups do Christmas carols in the lobby each day. Two pluses are that you don't have to deal with the heat, and the Quarter is not crowded at all. We spent a couple nights there, ate at Galatoires right across the street and several other nice restaurants like Drago's and Deanie's, walked Jackson Square, hit the Riverwalk, caught a Cirque du Soleil- type Christmas show at the Mahalia Jackson Theatre, did the Cafe du Monde thing, etc. Missed out on the horse carriage rides cause it rained the morning we wanted to do it. It was a very nice, relatively inexpensive surprise Christmas gift for the wife. Just told her to have a bag packed for a couple nights, and she had no clue where we were headed. My 13 yr. old son really enjoyed it as well. Hard to pass up the Royal Sonesta at that price, especially when it is decked out for Christmas.
