So about a month ago New Orleans activated lights at the top of the on ramps to Highway 90 around the Pontchartrain Expressway. It is supposed to speed up traffic going both direction on the bridge during rush hour. I don't live or work on the West Bank so I'm not sure how much it's helping.

What it has also done has made traffic HORRIBLE on the surface streets around the on ramps. In the morning it will be bumper to bumper barely moving 3-4 lights before you hit the on ramp. Since only one car get on the interstate every 5 seconds or so it leads to string a green lights where no one can go anywhere. Now that school has started back it gotten even worse. All these lights have done is move all the congestion to surface streets in the uptown/downtown area. My commute from uptown to the lakeview area takes about twice as long as it use to.

Anyone else that lives or works in the uptown/downtown area experiencing the same thing?

it actually does help by spacing cars when they merge on the interstate so the on coming traffic SHOULDN'T have to slow down and creat a bottleneck. Basically what happens at Power/I10.

but we know people in Louisiana cant drive for shite so any changes for the better just makes things go from bad to worse.

It fricking sucks on the surface streets. The one getting on tchop is awful because there is no arrow to turn coming from uptown and it fricking backs up. It's terrible

the problem is shitty drivers plus way behind infrastructure. You put in new lights and people either don't listen to them, or even if they do then it backs up the surface streets because the turn lanes aren't big enough.

Hell Georgia has some massive turn lanes and those even back up pretty bad at peak traffic times.

It absolutely helps up on the Expressway. The problem with coming from the West Bank right now is the jacked up lane changes they're reconfiguring since removing the toll booths.

Why is the express lane not open heading back into downtown in the afternoons? The west bank bound traffic in the afternoon seems to always move well, while heading into downtown from the wank is always a pain in the arse.

I don't have to take the expressway to or from work, so I cannot speak to that. But, the times I have tried to traverse from LGD to Midcity via Calliope to Broad has been an absolute shite show.

I don't go that way anymore.

They took the one's in Houston down. That should tell you something.

Like others have said, the lights definitely help on the expressway but clog up surface streets.

Works extremely well for keeping the Expressway traffic moving.

That is the cost. I love it in the morning, and hate it in the afternoon. Overall, I'm for it.

It hasn't been that bad for me, but I'm coming from Convention Center and going to Old Met, so I get off at Airline.

It doesn't help that the 18 wheelers stack up the Tchop on ramp leaving the docks. You'll see cars lined up all the way to the Convention Center and down Tchop during those hours.

Although I'm heading downtown for work around 7pm when the lights are off so unless there's an accident it's clear
