Causeway? Yeah they finished, but still do random stuff at night. I have no idea what because I can't see a single thing different, but they are doing something

Yeah man. There's a reason why 12 million people visit the city each year and the population is just about at pre Katrina numbers.

It is done, it opened yesterday. The VA is set to open in 2016.

Love visiting New Orleans, will be there this weekend and it's been too long
Wish I would have pulled the trigger on a condo before prices started going up

I've been back a lot recently and the development really is impressive. St Charles really needs some repair but streets will always need maintenance in that city.

Same here, been thinking about a place in the city. But you sure don't get much for 200k these days. If the market keeps growing it may still be a good idea. Not looking for an "investment" but would hope it'd be an appreciating asset.

all of those things are fantastic along with many others
despite in endemic poverty and poor education New Orleans has never been better
it remains to be seen if adequate leadership will ever step forward to address the underlying issues and make real drastic hange. New Orleans does not have to be like every other urban area...it has been given a new lease on life along with an injection of investment never before seen in this area
my fingers are crossed

You can find a 1 BR/studio in the warehouse dist for around 200k. We paid $120k for my 400 sq ft place in the CBD around the corner from Rouses on Lafayette street in 07. In 2011 it was appraised for $160.

there will always be spillage/shrinkage in a situation like this
lots of the money has already left town
but most of it is here and it's obviously working

National publications have been writing about the boom since 2009 or so.
It's freaking insane. You can ride your bike all around what used to be shitty hoods and just be floored at the new homes and remodeling going on.

Many people in BR, LA hate hearing about how much NOLA is developing. Hate it with a passion.

The hospital is a shell that looks huge. But it doesn't have the funding to fulfill Jindal's promised levels of care and especially to help fill the gaping hole of mental health care beds the city and region is missing.
Really sad too. Spent billions and they can't run it at even close to full capacity.
