The Japanese people have every right to defend themselves from overgrown lizards.

Trump right again. Other nations just laugh and mock us now thanks to Mr. Momjeans.

Personally I'm jacked they built this ship the more they build the better. We name ships after ships that have been lost. The name is a non issue Plus it's not like we can't easily blow that thing out the water.

surely they recognize their wrong involvement.. why name their new carrier in honor of such dishonor.. or even at that.. a losing effort.. this isn't quite the same as an exhibition.. this is naming their current carrier after such a wrongdoing. i think it's messed up, but i'm not upset over it. just simply an opinion.

Maybe it's heritage, not hate.

Why exactly should the Japanese feel they were wrong for going to war?

doenst bother me. How many times has the US re-used ship names?

And we exacted out revenge to the Kaga, Akagi, Soryu, and Hiryu in June of '42 at Midway....

the Japanese are not permitted to have any offensive military capabilities, only defensive.

While that my be true in theory. Many of the systems and weapon platforms they do have can be used offensively, and quite well in that capacity. The carrier in the OP can be and is likely designed for the future use of the F35. A Japan that can project power in the region is a good thing for the US and will help counter any future threat from China.

The DoD really needs to change its name back to the Department of War.

Agree completely.

Unless you want to engage in pretzel logic and say we defended ourselves in:

Vietnam
Grenada
Panama
Iraq
Afghanistan

If so, then 'defense' is a really fuzzy and subjective term.

We told that guy he can't have a weapon, but it's okay to own a pistol for defense.

Didn't they change their laws or something to allow for offensive weapons?

That's fine. Perhaps we can name our next ship "Little Boy."

Not sure I would bet on this... They have their share of deniers as it relates to the brutality of their WW2 war machine.

And let's not forget that the Japanese Marine Defense Force also helped us against those aliens off of Hawaii, as seen in the documentary "Battleship."

But really, this isn't that big of a deal. Where was the outrage when the launched the previous one?

Edit: Not to mention the ship isn't named for the previous ship, but a province in Japan. Get over it.
