I switched from Taste of The Wild to Merrick and then finally settled on Diamond Natural grain free for a GSP and Black Lab.

Spaying, get it done asap before her first heat cycle.
This is important. It'll cost more after the first heat.
For food, I'm not sure it makes much difference. The dogs I've had never seemed any healthier on premium food.

Science Diet Grain Free
Get her fixed now, no reason to wait
Mine was fixed the day she turned 6 months old
Congrats on the gently used pup!

Incorrect. When you spay affects some things positively and others negatively. Ive only been reading about this recently so Im not claiming to be educated on the matter but I can leave an awesome link.

My wife is a vet and she insists on spay/neuter at 6 months (when the baby teeth fall out). Take it for what its worth.

Smart looking dog. I bet she can learn anything you want to teach.

Damn fine dog you have there.

Science diet is shite. Diamond naturals or Kirkland from Costco. It's diamond brand.

Actually it's not. They're one of the only pet food companies that tests its products for efficacy and purity of ingredient. We use it exclusively at our clinic, and our dogs have been on it their entire lives. Shiny, healthy coats - happy, healthy dogs.
ETA: Wife thinks that the Kirkland brand may be Science Diet.

if done before 1 year of age, significantly increases the risk of osteosarcoma (bone cancer); this is a common cancer in larger breeds with a poor prognosis

The researchers suggest a cause-and-effect relationship, as sex hormones are known to influence the maintenance of skeletal structure and mass, and also because their findings showed an inverse relationship between time of exposure to sex hormones and risk of osteosarcoma.
I fixed my Boxer because I didn't want a chance of puppies, if I would have known this along with the way Boxers are predisposed to cancer I may have waited until she was older.

Thanks for choosing a rescue dog. She is darling. Spay early and just give her lots of love.

Science diet is terrible for quality and price. I use Purina one in the red bag. Dog food advisor is the best when it comes to food rankings. Don't know about the last 2.

Science Diet is good.
We've been loyal Canidae users, with much satisfaction.
Congrats on the great looking dog.

Beautiful dog, congrats on your new best friend.
Agree that science diet is expensive and crappy. I personally prefer to feed a prey-model raw food diet but a grain-free kibble and canned is good too.
And as a few others have posted, early spay or neuter can be detrimental. If you think she is 11 months, I would be comfortable spaying now (most breeders suggest no sooner than 1 yr to allow for proper development.)

I only feed my dog Fromm.
It’s family owned and isn’t contracted with any pet stores so they don’t have a quota to meet. They only use natural ingredients and if it isn’t available then they limit production.
Chewy.com actually ended their relationship with Fromm Because they had to limit production back in August.
The company cares about their product and takes the animals health into consideration first and I like supporting that.

We do Pro Plan for our GSD/Lab mix, seems to be the only food that doesn't make his pee kill the grass, so we've stuck with it. He's turning 5 soon and has maintained his weight (65) to the exact pound since his growth stopped.
The puppy classes at Petsmart were actually really good. Gave us a lot of great info and gave us a good base to start with. Inexpensive as well.
Can't help with the heat, our dog is a baw. Adopted him at 12 weeks, and his boys were already snipped.
But most of all, congrats on getting a rescue dog. Our rescue is the best dog I've ever owned. Would do it all over in a heartbeat.

Honestly man... Love the dog, have patience, and praise when he or she does right. If you can do that then the dog will turn out just fine. You have a best friend for life
