Christwood has a really nice indoor lap pool, not sure if its open membership for anybody, somehow my mother's husband is able to go workout and swim there.
or you can drop 55 grand for something still too small.

We built a lap pool in NOLA that is 45 ft long. Works quite well but we are not former competitive swimmers or anything.

I know someone who built one that is covered. Paid around $100k. I'll bet you're looking at $75k for something worth swimming laps in.
You mentioned you had kids. I'd suggest swinging by Lowes on the way home from work, pick up a few shovels, and get to digging. Great family project.

What is the soil like where you are? My folks used to have a pool but it kept developing cracks thanks to the ground here. Which has also eaten up the house foundations in this neighborhood.
Other then that I'd advise making damn sure you don't put the pool anywhere near pine trees, or any other type tree. The joy of fishing out pine needles and leaves gets old. Owning a pool can be a lot of fun and it is great for exercise.
Won't hurt the resell value of your home either.

A pool big enough to swim effective laps is not feasible. Even 50 feet, which is big for a backyard pool, will get old fast.
You can do a decent backyard pool and put the motor for an endless pool on one of the sides.
But to be fair, I don't like swimming in endless pools either.

Join a gym with a family plan and large pool.
It would take you 50 years of gym dues to equal the cost of a pool.
..and you don't have to bust your arse to take care of it.

"The happiest two days in a pool owners life is the day he bought it and the day he sells it."
That's a rumor out there.

They can be fun, but the old saying "A pool is a hole in the ground that you pour money into" has a lot of truth too it.

How much?
About $73,000, though that may have included landscaping as well. Included a large hot tub, heater and lots of decking. High wall on one side that is 45 feet long so lots of extra tile. Pool is irregularly shaped. Not just a rectangle. You can probably get something to suit your needs for $55,000-$60,000.
And we use it a lot. Wife dropped her gym membership and just swims in our pool the last few years, unless it gets really cold.

You mind saying the name of the company if you liked the job they did?
