Traveling with my wife to Ruston for a several hours today. She will be occupied, so it is up to me to entertain myself and our 4 year old for about 4-5 hours. Any suggestions?

Catch a La Tech Baseball game if they are in town. One of the coolest college stadiums in the state

Ride around the town and tell her, " this is where you live when you don't get an education".
She'll be scared straight.

You could go to Chilis and Walmart.

Go to Mount Driskill and claim your place in history as one of many that could make it through the treacherous conditions to the highest point in LA.

Not much in Ruston, as it is a very small (but nice) town. I would probably run back to Monroe and hang out at the mall for some lunch, etc.
You could also head up to Bastrop to see what Simmons has going on.
Another option would be to check out the Eddie Robinson museum at Grambling.

Railroad Park
Cooktown Park
Lincoln Parish Park
Mitchum's Peach Orchird
Tech baseball game
Grab some ice cream
Walk up and down the I-20 strip mall
Lincoln Parish Park is where I would go. Playgrounds, a small beach, take a boat out onto the lake (you can rent them) and they have concessions
*and as someone mentioned Monroe has a ton of options and is 25 minutes away.
**Bonnie and Clyde museum/trade days in Arcadia
