pools are like women. they need a little attention every single day or they turn nasty on a dime.

Check the BBB and other sites to see who has bad reviews and complaints, if they aren't listed or were recently listed because they keep changing their name, there is probably a reason why.

Do it during the winter, during the Summer they are too busy, so it takes longer and you get very poor service typically.

Think carefully and think twice about if you really want a pool.

If you decide to install a pool, think about it again.

ETA: If it could be done, I would give you my pool.

reputable company in Baton Rouge for a backyard pool.

I used Brian Keith Pools. No issues. Easy to get a hold of when I need him to this day.

I would have used Eric ... unfortunately his quote was nearly double of what I paid.

And yes, all contractors had the same set of plans to bid from.

1. Ignore everyone that tells you not to do it.

2. Pay attention to when your contractor wants money for each portion of the work he's doing.

A friend of mine has a pool.

He says he'll give it away for free to anyone who can figure out how to get that son of a bitch out of his back yard.

Find Paco. He is the pool whisperer.

Hard to sell a house with a pool. Probably not what you are thinking now but think down the road. Limits prospects.

It really doesn't matter who you use to build your pool. All they are is salesmen and you won't see them again after the pool is in.

They basically sell you the pool and all of them hire the same mexican crew to dig, form and plaster. I have seen several go up in my neighborhood done by different companies and the crews are the same.

I'm sure you'll find a contractor that suits you. But please give careful thought to design and how you'll use it. I HATE my 8 foot deep end. Nobody who swims in my pool dives and the deep end is basically wasted and more difficult to clean and remove debris. IF I could do it from scratch I'd have 4 1/2 - 5 foot deep all the way across activity pool where volleyball basketball could be played with more room than just across my shallow end. 5ft is plenty deep for a nice slide feature. Just my 2 cents.

Good advice right here.

If you like your house, the pool may make you want to move in a few.

Read Ruzil's and SJS101's post above. They are both spot on. Parts of pool that will be used the most is the places people can stand. Treading water gets old after about 30 seconds. And they all use the same exact Mexican crews. It's a very small network of people who do that work. So shop by price and of course make sure you feel comfortable with the guy who is doing it. But don't think you're getting any extra craftsmanship by the guy who is double the price.
