So last night durin the storm, lightening cracked and my tv shut down and will not power back on. Everything else is fine though. I unplugged the tv overnight hoping that would work and nothin this morning. Am I better off at just getting a new tv or can this one be fixed? TIA

I'd just buy a new TV.

Happened to me recently. Power supply was shot. $350 to repair. Depends on your home insurance deductible on what you should do.

I would also check all of your appliance throughout your house. Your tv might not be the only thing hit.

There was a similar thread a couple weeks ago about similar issues.

If you can confirm it was a power surge, you'll need to replace one of the boards inside. This is fairly simple to do. You'll have to google how to confirm which board, then find the board online.

If it's a larger TV, it's prob easier to fix. Smaller, just get a new one. If you can't DIY, prob better to get a new one.

Plug something else into the outlet and see if it works.
Plug the tv into a different outlet.
Check your breaker.

I live in a crappy studio apartment and don't have insurance unfortunately. All other electronics in my place seem to be working just fine. If I have to pay $350 to just fix it I may as well just upgrade.

I have a soundbar, blue ray player, xbox, and cable box all pluged into the same power strip and those items were not affected at all. Pretty weird that only the tv messed up

Call the tv company and tell them what happened.
Same kind of thing happened with a blue ray player. I was going to chunk it, but called the company and she gave me a reset sequence that turned it on again.

It's a little odd that none of them are messed up, or partially messed up. A lot of times it fries the main board (one with all the inputs) since it handles all the low voltage signals. It will travel down the coax line or HDMI.

I had mine blow out my TV main board (separate outlet) and my stereo receiver which was on a surge protector. Nothing else on surge protector went out, including PS3, Wii, DVR, etc.

May be a dumb question, but would best buy take it off my hands and give me a little store credit for a new one? I know they sell a lot of refurbished tv's, I just don't know the kind of shape the are in when they get there. Thanks guys

It's only about 3 years old. I have a serious case of the redass right about now. Guess I'll go buy a bigger and better tv to watch the saints win on today
