We are considering breaking down and getting a trampoline for the kids. Safety has always been my concern. I've never been concerned about a head injury, I'm more concerned about a knee hyperextending or breaking a leg. So, a couple questions:

1) Are my concerns warranted?

2) Are there any that are easy to break down? We had a smaller one at our old house a few years ago and had to leave it. There's a good chance we'll move again before the end of the year and I dont want to have to eat another one.

Any particular suggestions would be appreciated.

Check your homeowners policy. With some policies if you have a trampoline they won't cover anything. In other words they do not allow you to have a trampoline and carry any sort of homeowners policy. There are others that allow you to carry a homeowners policy with a trampoline. However they make it explicitly clear that they do not cover any trampoline related injuries or damages. I had to switch insurance companies

Does not compute.

But let your kids have fun if you got good insurance.

Get one with a net around the outside. They are pretty reasonably priced on Amazon.

Just wanted to post this because it's an adorable Christmas commercial with a dog and a trampoline...

That's a given. Any particular brand, though?

And nurse, any horror stories of he ER? I could be persuaded against it. And of course it's not just my kids. It's scarier that some neighbors' a-hole kids will come over and break their legs..

Would you let your kids play sports because I have a hard time believing that jumping on a trampoline is any more dangerous than tackle football.

We've had one for 6 years and my daughter has never been injured, however when we moved to our new home we went through nine kinds of hell with the insurance company.

I don't work in the peds ER, just on the peds floor. I have cared for numerous kids with elbow fractures that had to stay overnight cause they had surgery.

Some of them falls from trampolines, most of them just falls in general. Kids are clumsy and have lots of energy and get bored easily. As clumsy as I was/am....it's a miracle I didn't have broken bones as a child

Yeah the whole liability thing and the insurance issues with trampolines are why I would never personally own one if I had a child.

Nowadays there are so many indoor trampoline places. Just bring your kid there instead.

I've had one in my trashy back yard for 15 years years and it has been used by dozens upon dozens of kids and drunk adults in that time. Not a single injury. I get the potential liability concerns and nobody wants to see a kid get hurt, but they are probably more likely to get hurt in the lunch line at school.

Lawyers and insurance companies know that a trampoline and a swimming pool are the greatest risks for kids. You want any particular suggestions - so unless your kid is training as a gymnast, and no one else will use it, find something else.

Y'all don't have any indoor trampoline parks nearby? Like Airstrike ? When you factor in upkeep, insurance, etc, yearly memberships to parks like the one linked are a much more cost effective option.

Trashy yes, but I had one for my kids for 3 years until we moved ( I gave it to a neighbor). Kids loved it. My daughter broke her ankle and had to be in a cast for about 3 months doing the old land cross legged routine. I think they're all about the same as far as safety goes. Need the netting and pad, but they all come with that now.

First thing you need to do is check to see if you homeowners insurance allows it. If not, and they see it, you will be getting a letter notifying you that you insurance is being dropped.
