NASA is planning to bring together Earth’s most brilliant experts from various scientific fields to search for habitable exoplanets, i.e planets beyond our solar system.
The joint effort is called the NExSS program – NASA Exoplanet System Science – and hopes to provide knowledge to better understand the various components of exoplanets, along with how their parent stars and neighbor planets interact to sustain life.

In a distant galaxy...

Alien 1: we MUST let the earthlings discover us within 30 earth years

Alien 2: really? Why's that?

Alien 1: I've received a message stating the earthlings have implemented a 30 year plan, written in Microsoft Word, to discover us

Alien 2: WOW. I didn't think they'd take such drastic measures. That settles it then. We have no choice but to surrender our existence to them. Let's prep the armada.

NASA used to be awesome when it was actually exploring space. Now its missions are global warming and finding aliens.

It might not be the best idea to go broadcasting to the whole universe "here we are!".

Not a big conspiracy guy, but when government agencies say shite like this, odds are they are already on to something and the 30 year plan is how to bring it to the public

This thread proves how simple minded the ot is. Almost every response is replying to thread title. Not the actual content of the op's post.

And your response was to our responses instead of the actual content of the OP's post...irony.

The alien will be a virus or a bacteria, not some damn 4 ft tall green guy with a funny language. We can't even get to the nearest planet, but y'all think we're 30 years away from warp drive and a meeting with interstellar travelers?

This makes me believe that they've already got some sort of proof. It may take 30 years just to verify it and come up with how to present the information. The idea of life on another planet is one that may really anger and scare a lot of irrational people.

This is one of the most ignorant, absurd statements I've ever read. Just because there is some cause more important to you doesn't mean that all of the engineers and scientists at NASA are just messing around with toy rockets and shite. It's highly important to understand as much about the universe as possible and push to explore and learn more. It's sad that people, especially children, are dying to cancer, but that doesn't mean that all other scientific endeavors go out of the window. People don't just quit becoming astrophysicists because cancer exists.
