My dog thinks he needs to save me when I jump in the pool

So this is my first summer with a pool, and whenever i go near the water, he thinks I am in some sort of danger and flips out. If I stay by the side, he runs around barking. If I go under he dives in and jumps right at me, scratching me up. Any advice on how to train him to chill?

Used to swim at a house sometimes where the lab did that with the kids. That damn dog would never chill out as she thought the kids were in danger.
Always ended up putting the dog inside

You now have a pool. We all know this now.

But I don't want him diving on some kids, he's a big boy

Next time he tries to save you, grab onto him and use him as a flotation device.
Teach him a valuable lesson. Many people without proper training who try to rescue drowning victims are drowned as the victim pushes their rescuer under trying to keep themselves afloat.
EDIT:
This is disappointing to learn.
You should have already known to teach him this. Shame.

My golden did this growing up. It was a bitch because you knew when you'd jump it was going to turn into brutal claw marks.
My dog did cool stuff too though like jump in the pool when no one was outside and float on the raft all day.
