Not sure if more appropriate for food board but...

15 year old son, looking to add weight/mass
Lots of the football players at school use Muscle Milk
He hates the taste of it
I looked at Ensure Plus, seems to have about the same stuff as MM does except less protein.

What is the advantage of MM over Ensure Plus, aside from the higher protein?

Thanks

My advice, if you found one he likes, buy it for him. That's 90% of the battle.

Tell your son to quit being soft. You dont drink that stuff for taste.

Theres nothing good about muscle milk...there are much better quality proteins out there and for better prices.

Not familiar with this ensure plus though.

If your son in serious about lifting, get him something that will help repair his muscles and still has a ton of vitamins... I would let him keep using the muscle milk because it is an all around better product than ensure, and if he doesn't like the taste, same with me, get him some almond milk, and mix the protein with that and it will taste more like a malt than a protein drink.

What's the sugar content of Ensure Plus?

try MusclePharm Combat Powder. Cheaper than Muscle Milk and tastes amazing.

Too much Protein

In all seriousness, he should get a solid Whey protein and get a solid workout in with proper food intake. MM is too pricey and overrated.

There are other products out there that taste different, some better, some worse. If he is dedicated to building mass/weight, he would want to do that with additional muscle which means heavy workouts. He needs to use the "big movements", i.e. dead lifts, squats, power cleans, all those that wear you the f*** out! If he's doing enough to build those muscles, he will need additional protein. Buy some good quality whey protein and find a "smoothie" recipe that he likes. At that age and with the kind of exercise he will be doing, he can easily get away with high calorie ingredients like peanut butter, bananas, fruit, nuts, etc.

I drank an ensure plus and ate a peanut butter and jelly sandwich every night before bed and gained like 20 lbs in 4 months in high school. And I didn't work out with weights, I just wanted weight because I was so skinny.

It all fell off when I stopped though.

Now I'm 27 and my metabolism has fricking stopped in its tracks

Trade milk for Ensure Plus and this is a GREAT way to gain weight FWIW.

High carb/calorie white bread, can even butter it if you want.
