WRCB Chattanooga

quote:

He said he was hanging out at an apartment with friends when they noticed someone outside.

Police later identified that person as Calvin Carter III.

"It sounded like he was messing with a gun," said Feeney, "So I came back and I was like 'I don't know if he is, but it sounds like he's messing with a gun. I'm going to call the cops.'"

Feeney said while he was on the phone with police, his friends went to a backroom.

One of them jumped out a window to get help, but came face to face with Carter, who held him at gunpoint.

Feeney said he saw Carter holding his friend at gunpoint at the front door, and let him in.

"He heard me on the phone with the cops," Feeney said about Carter, "And I said 'Come here now. Come here now.'"

Feeney said Carter demanded the phone, he gave it to him, and Feeney said that's when he took action.

"Whenever he turned around, that's when I grabbed him," recalled Feeney, "And his forearms were still loose so he grabbed the gun out of his waist band and shot me in the leg."

Feeney was shot in the upper thigh.

He said five people held Carter on the ground until police arrived.

"He kept wrestling with me," recalled Tucker Williams who helped hold Carter down, "I was like 'you have one more chance please stop.' He wouldn't stop and that's when I punched him in the eye twice."

ehh... bad news though

quote:

While Channel 3 was at the apartment Monday, the people who live in the apartment where the shooting took place were served with an eviction notice.

It's not clear if that eviction is a result of the home invasion, or if anyone in the apartment knew the man arrested.

Even with a gun, why would you get in close quarters with 5 people you are trying to rob? There had to be easier targets in that apartment complex. Must've been personal.

5 on 1. Who are these victims? The perp didn't shoot the other 4, why would they batter him?

police blotter version of the story

quote:

A Chattanooga man faces multiple charges, accused of forcing his way into a home with a gun.

Calvin Carter III was arrested Monday, and charged with first-degree attempted murder, especially aggravated burglary, reckless endangerment, and three counts of aggravated assault, according to the arrest report.

Late Saturday night, Carter knocked on an apartment door on Mansion Circle and demanded to be let in. One victim told police he heard a metallic sound, what he thought was the receiver on a weapon being racked back and forth.

That's when the victim jumped out of the apartment's back window, only to be discovered by Carter. The report states Carter then led the one victim back to the apartment at gunpoint to make his way inside.

Carter then demanded the victim's cellphone and during the exchange was jumped by his two victims, who disarmed him and held him until police arrived.

One man was shot in the leg during the struggle and was transmitted to a local hospital for examination and treatment.

Carter's bond was set for $245,000.

Are you seriously asking why the others would beat the crap out the shooter? I know I wouldn't want you around to help out in a bad situation.

The gangs/shootings in Chattanooga is ridiculous for a city this size. Every dang morning on the news, shooting previous night. I've been here 18 yrs & have seen the progression, very sad. Local officials seem to put some blame on Katrina. Yes, that Katrina. After the storm, some fled to ATL & are over flowing into surrounding areas. Chattanooga is less than 2hr drive

I like the mountains and more seasonal weather but prefer to stay in the South. North Carolina would be another option.

I'm pretty familiar with the Raleigh area. I used to work up there a lot. We almost moved there 8 years ago but my wife nixed it. She's cool with it now though. We looked in Cary.
