I'm moving from Tennessee to Baton Rouge in a couple months. My company is relocating me, but they're just handing me a lump sum and its up to me to take care of all the logistics. Does anybody have experience with doing this? I wanna know cost. What are the OT recommendations?
Thanks!

The best option is to hire one of the big guys like United Van Lines, Grabel, etc.

If you have enough allowance have them pack for you as well.

It really is a pretty easy process. Get a couple quotes pick the company with the best service and pick a date.

Most also have services to relocate your vehicles as well.

Thoroughly record all of your possessions, preferable with a moving company rep with you

Do NOT hire a local "Cheap Charlie"!

They may hold your furniture hostage until you pay double the original estimate. You can fight it but all your stuff is in storage until things are settled.

I see stories about this on tv periodically.

Cheapest big company will be united or allied. You have to be on their time frame though as they have several moves on each truck. If you want to save money run an ad on craigs list for experianced movers to come pack a truck that you rent. Drive the truck to baton rouge and have the same thing set up to unload the truck. Pay the movers around $13 an hour each.

I would pay for someone to load the truck in TN, drive it yourself, then pay someone to unload it in Baton Rouge.

the relocation center will sell your home, find you a new one, move your stuff, along with all of the logistics. Google them.

Have you looked into changing companies as opposed to locations?

This sounds like a big pain in the arse and someone asking for a lot of problems.

I had a moving company for a while. It is the cheapest route without doing it yourself
